POSITION TITLE: Full-Time Faculty - Offshore Wind Energy (Tenure-Track; Open Rank - Instructor, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor)

DEPARTMENT: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)

PRIMARY LOCATION: New Bedford

REPORTS TO: Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

POSITION STATUS: Full-time, tenure track, MCCC/MTA unit position with benefits. This is an academic year position. The title of this position will be Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor, depending on the selected candidate's experience. This position may be eligible for release time as department chair or curriculum coordinator.

STARTING DATE: Spring/Fall 2024

SALARY: Minimum hiring salary $47,931 - $63,543 - actual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which may result in a higher salary than the stated range. Please refer to the New Hire Tables in the CBA for more information.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

As a member of the Engineering Department in the STEM areas, the Full-Time Faculty - Offshore Wind Energy will teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of Offshore Wind Energy, Wind Power Technology, Wind Power Operations and Maintenance, and Electromechanical Engineering courses, which may include but are not limited to the list found online in the Academic Catalog. Depending upon qualifications, they may also be responsible for teaching courses in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, and/or CAD (i.e. Material Science, Fluid Systems, Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Thermodynamics, Electrical Circuits, Digital Electronics, or Manual & CNC Machining), Manufacturing Processes, Lean & Six Sigma, Control Systems, and/or any other area of Engineering offered by the College. Courses may be held in the classroom at our Fall River, New Bedford, Attleboro, and Taunton locations; in the hybrid or online environment; and/or via other modalities as assigned.


 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of courses in the Engineering Department and at all Bristol locations as assigned.
  • Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course and student learning outcomes and General Education competencies as appropriate, according to the teaching modality of the course (online, face-to-face, hybrid, etc.)
  • Foster student success across the college's diverse student body, and address equity gaps, through innovative teaching and learning approaches as well as curriculum development.
  • Incorporate High-Impact Practices (HIPs) into curricular and pedagogical approaches.
  • Serve as academic advisor to assigned students.
  • Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week.
  • Develop appropriate discipline-related courses.
  • Serve on college committees as elected or appointed.
  • Attend program, department, academic area, all-college, and committee/council meetings.
  • Recommend suitable instructional material, textbooks, and library acquisitions.
  • Participate in assessment of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues, to teach online as needed, and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate.
  • Maintenance and continued development of Offshore Wind Lab in New Bedford, MA.
  • Engage in professional development activities through participation in conferences, workshops, seminars, and professional associations to maintain excellence in the discipline and in the classroom.
  • Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
  • Actively participate in the general college community and fulfill duties as stipulated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Job Requirements:


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

Must include the following:

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Engineering in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering; or a closely related discipline.
    • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered.
  • Demonstrated industrial experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated competency and comprehensive understanding of Offshore Wind Energy, in particular, Wind Energy and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with engineering software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications and online teaching.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 18 graduate credits in offshore wind energy or wind energy, clean energy, or a closely related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience at the college level or equivalent experience as a trainer or facilitator in an industrial or non-profit environment.
  • Experience in community college teaching, advising, and/or curriculum development.
  • Global Wind Organization (GWO certification)
  • Experience teaching using models, simulations, and scientific visualization techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and teaching online and/or hybrid course formats that incorporate universal design principles.
  • Demonstrated experience working on committees and within teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to closing equity gaps.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating an academic program or project.
  • Demonstrated experience with writing grant proposals, grant management, and budgeting.
  • Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.
