General Summary

The Fire/EMS Director is responsible for managing the Fire and EMS programs under supervision of the Dean. The director will provide instruction, interact with and support students, work as team member within department. 

Specific Position Duties

1. Teach assigned courses in the curriculum; 2. Teach Web, Web-enhanced, and ITV classes as requested, using a variety of instructional technologies; 3. Teach Dual Credit classes to locations in the west Texas area; 4. Assist with recruitment, advising, and retention activities as well as participate in various departmental and campus-wide committees; 5. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field; 6. Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college; 7. Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners; 8. Provides students with written expectations, e.g., syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, etc.; 9. Administers tests which are appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall grasp of course objectives; 10. By ways and means of instructing students, affirms the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn; 11. Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, web, or distance, which encourages the free exchange of ideas while defending academic honesty and objectivity; 12. Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, labs, and any other scheduled instructional activities; 13. Delivers material in a clear and understandable manner; 14. Addresses student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input, both in class and via posted office hours, timely electronic communication, and other suitable means. 15. Effectively handles routine procedures necessary for the successful, day-to-day operation of the department as delegated by the Director/Dean; 16. Submits required reports and schedules in a timely manner to the Director/Dean; 17. Maintains effective relationships with professional counterparts throughout the college and the community; 18. Maintains individual student advisement on degree plans and degree applications in order to comply with completion requirements; 19. Assists with recruiting, marketing, and outreach for department programs; 20. Actively participates in college functions and events, and engages in community service. DRI/Director Position Specific Duties 1. Direct the schedule build for the discipline; 2. Ensure compliance with instructional practices; 3. Manage, budget, and order supplies; 4. Schedule department and program advisory meetings and maintain minutes to submit to the Dean of the School; 5. Lead class observations for returning faculty; 6. Support LED and faculty in Core Program Outcome documentation and assist in assessment; 7. Hire adjuncts and oversee adjunct support plan; 8. Initial signature for forms (leave, incompletes, student schedule changes, etc.); 9. Oversee curricular development; 10. Attend meetings as scheduled; 11. Perform annual faculty evaluations; 12. Address student complaints; 13. Attend completion ceremonies, such college graduation; 14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, AND an Associates Degree in Fire Science AND Basic Firefighter Certification AND Level III Instructor Certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection AND Licensed Paramedic Certificate from the State of Texas; Computer literacy; Demonstrated ability to teach students from a wide spectrum of ages and from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, including high school students who are enrolled in dual credit classes; Excellent communication and presentation skills; Excellent work ethic; and Commitment to teaching excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution; Department Chair, Director, or comparable leadership experience

Varied according to schedule.
