Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. Education (Minimum Requirements):
 
Masters Degree in Education or related field. Experience in counseling or advisement at a post-secondary level and previous experience with academic advising preferred. Demonstrated understanding of institutional policies and procedures as they affect student academic success; demonstrated ability to interact with students, faculty, and college staff. Strong counseling and communication skills required.
 
Nature and Scope of Duties
 
The Academic Advisement Services Coordinator reports to the Department Chair and/or their designee performs the following duties:
 
Provides academic advisement to students in all programs within the department(s).
 
Acquaints students with general education requirements, College regulations, services and opportunities.
 
Counsels students regarding the consequences of course withdrawal, insufficient progress, change of major, or withdrawal from the institution.
 
Assists students as they make decisions related to career, program/major, selection of courses and in evaluation or re-evaluation of progress toward established goals and educational plans.
 
Evaluates transfer credit in coordination with appropriate Department Chairperson and supports the chairperson with degree clearance, previously completed courses, and pre-requisites for students.
 
Acts as liaison with student services offices and as primary contact for the office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, Bursar and Admissions.
 
Manages the daily operations of advising services including but not limited to scheduling of student appointments, work-flow, technology, website, facilities issues, scheduled training and may represent the department needs on campus committees.
 
Maintains working knowledge of college services, policies, and procedures affecting the academic success of the student – and refers students as appropriate.
 
Performs all other duties as assigned.
 
This is a full-time 37.5-hour work week position with a salary $50.000.00.
