Description

The Mens Basketball Coach is responsible for oversight of the mens basketball program and administering the sport in a manner that is consistent with the policies and procedures of the college, Florida College System Activities Association, the National Junior College Athletic Association, and the Central Conference. The ideal candidate will have an appropriate combination of education, training, and experience working with students. The successful candidate will have the knowledge, skills and judgment needed to build and maintain positive and productive relationships with athletes, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, coaches and community members. The coach will report directly to the Athletic Director.  

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Teach individual and team skill development and strategies.
  • Recruit qualified student-athletes to be members of our team.
  • Advise student-athletes and help them register for classes, enroll in the college, and prepare for transfer.
  • Coach all games and scrimmages.
  • Assist in the marketing and recruitment of our student-athletes to four-year schools.
  • Schedule regular season games, scrimmages, and practices.
  • Actively seek support for the program from outside sources and/or sponsors.
  • Schedule all travel accommodations for road games and recruiting.
  • Order all needed equipment and gear; keep an inventory.
  • Follow all NJCAA and FSCAA rules as applicable to the Mens Basketball program.
  • Counsel team members regarding basketball, academics, and life circumstances.
  • Engage with the community via camps and clinics.
  • Be active in facilitating alumni involvement
  • Knowledge of NJCAA, FSCAA, MFC, and Santa Fe rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of basketball skills and strategies; ability to convey them to the team.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and NAIA eligibility rules as they relate to our team members moving on to four-year schools.
  • Knowledge of financial aid and how it may assist our student-athletes in meeting their college costs.
Reports to: Athletic Director

Qualifications

Required:   Bachelors degree and four years of related work experience. First Aid and CPR certification.
Additional Requirements:  A criminal background check will be conducted. The Mens Basketball Coach will need to possess a valid state drivers license and be cleared to drive for the College.
Preferred:  Preferred qualifications a masters degree and college coaching experience.

  • Organization & Time Management – able to plan, schedule, and organize tasks related to the job to achieve goals within or ahead of established time frames.
  • Team Orientation & Interpersonal – highly motivated team player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within and external to the organization.
  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
  • Ethics – able to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, civility, and a high degree of ethics in all job-related actions.
  • Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.
