The mission of the NC State Department of Athletics is to prepare student-athletes to compete at the highest level and to inspire them to be leaders now and for the future by providing the best environment to achieve their athletic, academic, and personal aspirations as well as providing support for the professional development of our coaches and staff, all within the role of the greater institutional relationships to the University. North Carolina State University competes as an NCAA Division I team in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Sports Medicine Department is responsible for the preventative care, monitoring, and restoration of student-athlete overall health.

Essential Job Duties

Serves as the primary athletic trainer for assigned teams. Responsible for the care of student-athletes, including prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes under the supervision of a team physician.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assists in operating the training room
  • Ensures proper use of equipment and facilities by student-athletes
  • Works with Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and the Team Physicians in providing proper evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletically injured student-athletes
  • Maintains medical records on student-athletes to include physical examinations, insurance information and injury evaluation reports
  • Attends scheduled team practices and events, including traveling with teams, as assigned
  • Provides emergency care when indicated
  • Assists with maintenance of training room equipment
  • Assists with annual physical examinations and drug testing program.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assists with preparation of budget requests and managing inventory of supplies for training room operations
  • Interfaces with coaches regarding injured student-athletes
  • Follows the NATA Code of Ethics
  • Remains current on all state and national requirements for license renewal
  • Agrees to comply with all University, ACC, and NCAA bylaws and legislation
  • Supervises student trainers
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree required.

Other Required Qualifications

  • NATABOC Certified
  • Licensed by NC Board of Athletic Training or eligible for licensure
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree
  • Previous experience working with Division I or professional athletes

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

  • NATABOC Certified
  • Licensed by NC Board of Athletic Training or eligible for licensure
  • Valid NC Drivers License or ability to obtain one within 60 days
