This posting is to fill a full-time, tenure-track, categorically funded position within the Counseling division at San Bernardino Valley College. This position is contingent upon funding.



SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

This posting is to fill one (1) full-time, (198 working days) tenure track Counselor position. The Counselor shall perform all regularly assigned duties that include academic, career, and personal counseling including follow-up services. This assignment also includes components of the Student Success & Support Program and transfer process. Specific responsibilities include evaluating student transcripts, and assisting students with career exploration, career/major options and decisions, education planning which includes creating comprehensive student education plans, transfer guidance and course selection. Evening and some weekend work will be required as part of this position. Counselors work in an environment that requires the highest level of integrity, ethical practices, innovation, collegiality, teamwork, and adaptability to San Bernardino Valley College's campus culture in support of student success.

Representative Duties:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all the duties performed by the incumbent(s)of any particular position.   • Teaching career and student development courses
  • Performing liaison activities to service area high schools and the community.
  • Serving as a liaison to instructional divisions.
  • Assisting with the development of career counseling related publications.
  • Presenting career and transfer workshops and conducting follow-up for special student populations including probation and dismissal students.
  • Appropriately assisting in the development and implementation of special programs focusing on access and retention.
  • Participating in curriculum development for student development courses.
  • Conducting student orientations and student success workshops.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and activities including campus-wide activities.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling

OR the equivalent*

(NOTE: a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to title 5 section 53410.1)

Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and personnel.

  • If you believe to have the experience equivalent to the minimum qualifications for an academic position, you may request a determination of equivalency by completing a District Request for Equivalency form and provide supporting documentation as appropriate.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Two (2) years full-time experience, or four (4) years of part-time paid counseling experience with emphasis on student education planning, career planning and development.
  • One (1) year of knowledge and experience in career assessment tools and in the use for career counseling computer programs such as Eureka, Discover, SIGI, Career Cafe, or similar program(s).
  • One (1) year of knowledge and experience in the transfer process, particularly in the use of the UC Transfer process, Cal State Apply, and ASSIST.
  • One (1 ) year of knowledge and experience of articulation agreements and curriculum development.
  • One (1) year of college teaching experience in career and student development courses

Employment Requirements


The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:
  • Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
  • Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
  • Employment verification(s) (for salary placement on faculty salary schedule) Other pre-employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see job posting qualifications section for details).

Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment. These requirements are in accordance with the San Bernardino Community College District's Administrative Procedures and Board Policies.
