Is directly accountable and responsible to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
  • Responsible for providing leadership in planning, implementing, and managing service programs to include the areas of Career Counseling, Retention, Accessibility, and Personal Counseling Services.
  • Responsible for the supervision, training, evaluation, and performance of reporting staff.
  • Responsible for advising the Vice President for Student Affairs and assisting in the preparation of the budget for the Mystic Advising and Counseling Center (MACC).

Position Description & Details

 
  • Develop clear and measurable departmental student success goals that include targets for students employment and earnings outcomes.
  • Provides career services programming including, but not limited to career counseling for current students and alumni, on-campus recruitment, employer outreach and engagement, and professional development services.
    Responsible for all aspects of BSC's Career Services offerings including individual student meetings, sourcing student employment opportunities, managing on-campus recruiting, resume, and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, connecting students with mentors and other contacts, developing materials to guide student job search processes, developing networking events, and representing BSC to the community.
  • Analyzes students career paths, initiates career assessments, and inventories, and provides advice.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact between BSC and the external stakeholders who provide students and alumni with employment.
  • Fosters a culture of cross-campus collaboration, emphasizing the responsibility all faculty, staff, and alumni have in supporting students in their efforts to seek career opportunities and become career-ready.
  • Researches, collects data, and prepares appropriate reports and records as needed for advising, counseling, and career services.
  • Responsible for preparing survey instruments and overseeing the collection, tracking, and maintenance of all statistical information on employment for use in strategic planning and to fulfill internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for budget oversight and careful stewardship of the office's allocated budget.
  • Responsible for developing, managing, implementing, and evaluating an annual Career Services Strategy and associated tactics in support of BSCs mission, vision, and priorities.
  • Establishes performance metrics, monitors results, and works with the Vice President for Student Affairs to regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the Mystic Advising & Counseling Office.
  • Build relationships with industries and employers who recruit, interview, and hire students to measurably increase employment opportunities for our students, recent graduates, and alumni.
    Creates and maintains a positive, professional, and collaborative working environment, leading through example, and providing staff development and mentorship.
  • Serves as a member of the BSC Title IX team and other state, campus, and professional committees and organizations as needed.
  • Promotes innovation, creativity, and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc. in the department and for the college while focusing on innovation at a flat level and fostering a culture of no fear for innovative practices whether implemented or not.
  • Collaborates with departments to create efficient processes and procedures to help support student retention and enrollment.
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates reporting staff.
  • Provides leadership in the advising and personal/crisis counseling function and the development of appropriate materials to assist in those functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Supervises four benefited positions.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Continuously – 66-100% - Use hands dexterously, talk or hear.
  • Frequently – 34-65% - Stand, walk, or sit, reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally – 1-33% - Stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl, climb or balance, or lift up to 25 pounds.

 

Minimum Requirements

 
  • Masters degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Business, Counseling or Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field and three years experience in a supervisory position.
  • Ability to interpret statistical, and analytical reports and data.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
  • Good working knowledge of computer software programs (i.e., electronic job search and resume preparation, online career guidance systems, Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, etc., Outlook email and calendar), strong internet familiarity, and good keyboarding skills.
  • ND Vocational Guidance certification or ability to obtain certification within one year.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 
  • Experience in a comparable position in a community college setting.
  • Knowledge of employment job-seeking programs.
