POSITION TITLE: Early Childhood Education Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Career & Technical Education

REPORTS TO: Academic Dean & Department Chair

WORK HOURS: M-F

STATUS: Exempt

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Valid MN Drivers License and current auto insurance

SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of the Early Childhood Education Instructor is teaching students in the classroom and lab environments. The candidate must possess experience teaching in the early childhood bracket and must be knowledgeable of higher education practices in tribal colleges. The instructor will assist with the recruitment and retention of students into the ECE program. The Instructor shall maintain competency and knowledge of current research, practice and trends in early childhood education.

EDUCATION:

A Masters degree in discipline area and previous higher education teaching experience preferred. A successful candidate will have teaching experience, be able to teach courses at all appropriate levels, show the potential for active scholarship, demonstrate a desire and commitment to working with diverse communities, and be dedicated to student success and motivated by a strong commitment to the mission of Leech Lake Tribal College.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Duties

1. Integrate culturally sustaining Ojibwe pedagogy into early childhood education courses

2. Develop and maintain relationships with early childcare centers to support ECE student field experiences

3. Maintain communication with adjunct instructions

4. Maintain regular program reviews for ECE

5. Collaborate with LLECD in supporting professional development for ECE teachers

6. Provide training/professional development for Early Childhood teachers

7.   Teach ECE courses and update curriculum as needed with approval

8. Provide oversight for practicum students

9. Teach the CDA course

10. Oversee a partnership agreement with Leech Lake Early Childhood Development

Faculty Duties

Faculty is expected to teach nine to twelve (12-15) credits per semester.

Faculty are required to attend:

Faculty and staff in-service are held four times per year.

Serve on the Curriculum Committee and other committees as assigned.

Attend the Leech Lake Tribal College graduation ceremony at the end of the school year, and

Serve as academic advisor to students in the Early Childhood Education program

Faculty are required to submit:

Course syllabi and office hours to the Dean of Academics by required dates

Final semester and midterm grades by the required semester-end dates.

Student attendance reports in the required format at the required time.

Any other information required by the class standards.

Faculty must maintain office hours for students for tutorial assistance, academic advising, or assisting with student organizations such as Student Senate. These hours must be in addition to classroom hours.

Faculty must meet with each student enrolled in the classes they teach through a formal appointment process once each semester.

Faculty must abide by the Faculty Handbook and follow the policies of the college as outlined in the Personnel Policies Manual, College Catalog and Student Handbook.

Faculty must participate in securing grants including grant writing, and other support for College programs in your area of expertise.

Faculty must perform assessment activities; coordinate the Program Review and revision of the ECE program.

Faculty must continue with educational goals to meet the needs of College accreditation, participate in appropriate professional associations, and study Anishinaabe language and culture through formal classes, in-service, or informally through local community events.

Work closely and collaborate with the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe – Early Childhood Education programs to design and teach CDA courses for LLBO ECE employees.

Participate in all relevant Strategic Planning activities and develop the ECE program in connection with the LLTC Strategic Plan

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Understanding knowledge of and commitment to the mission, vision and goals of LLTC.

Experience working with the Ojibwe community.

Demonstrated commitment to serving students from diverse backgrounds, interests, goals, and abilities.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills and a self-starter.

Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills.

Ability to maintain confidentially of records and information.

Ability to interpret; adapt; and apply guidelines and procedures.

Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.

Ability to work effectively as a team member of LLTC.

Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and criminal background checks.

Native American Preference.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift 30 pounds or more and use proper body mechanics

Be able to sit or stand for long periods of time

Subject to internal working conditions.

Non-smoking environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $50,000.00 per year
