Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The IT Coordinator oversees the administration of the School of Public Healths hardware, including desktops, laptops, peripherals, and A/V equipment. They are responsible for developing the specifications for the hardware, developing and implementing equipment setup, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with student workers and campus colleagues to resolve problems and questions raised by the schools faculty, staff, and students regarding SPH and UMD IT resources. The IT Coordinator is responsible for leading projects such as A/V upgrades, computer management changes, and inventory management.
Responsibilities include:
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain SPH computing resources; employ Microsoft Active Directory services to manage permissions and computer inventory and perform periodic audits of access rights; maintain and configure systems using remote support tools including InTunes, Windows Admin Center, and Jamf to distribute security updates and software packages as well as to provide help requested by users.
  • Troubleshoot technology problems and answer related questions for SPH users; resolve issues escalated above frontline/student worker support.
  • Advise on hardware recommendations for SPH and serve as an asset specialist for the school.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Experience:
  • 2+ years experience in IT.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Knowledge of and experience supporting Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to quickly learn and implement new technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience supporting A/V systems and remote communication software (such as Zoom)
  • Experience using Microsoft Active Directory and InTunes
  • Experience supporting Mac OS; knowledge of Jamf
  • Knowledge or experience with any of the following: IT security best practices, networking, server configuration, virtualization technologies, deployment automation
  • Experience supporting IT in the context of higher education
  • Modern Desktop Administration certification or similar

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and transport computer equipment up to 60 lbs. Ability to sit and stand for long stretches of time. Ability to assemble and disassemble equipment components with manual dexterity. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
