The Access to Achievement Coordinator is a full-time position located primarily on the OCH Campus in Monroe, NC, with expected travel to all Anson and Union County campuses. Reporting to the Director of Student Wellness and Advocacy/Title IX Coordinator, the Access to Achievement Coordinator will provide support and guidance to individuals with disabilities as they navigate the Colleges processes and procedures, their program(s) of study, and into employment.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students who self-report or disclose an IDD diagnosis.
  • Conduct interviews with students and/or their parents/caregivers to identify interests and goals.
  • Present various options tailored to student interests, utilizing written materials, tours, and meetings with department heads. These options may include CCR programs, Continuing Education programs, and/or Curriculum programs.
  • Assist in the development of career pathways as necessary.
  • Develop individualized person-centered plans and ensure completion of required documentation.
  • Guide students through the application process as needed and refer to appropriate student services staff.
  • Make appropriate referrals to staff in the following student support departments: Career Counseling, Disabilities Services, Human Resources Development, Tutoring Services, and Mental Health Services.
  • Schedule bi-weekly follow-up and check-in meetings with students throughout their enrollment in college courses.
  • Regularly follow up with instructors to monitor student progress.
  • Inform students about campus events, opportunities, and activities, extending personal invitations to participate.
  • Participate in local marketing and outreach activities as directed by the College.
  • Assist in student recruitment efforts including engagement with area school districts, employers, and community agencies.
  • Track student outcomes as required by NCCCS and the local program.
  • Prepare and submit reports to NCCCS biannually.
  • Facilitate student-peer mentor relationships upon student or parent request.
  • Continue to track and follow-up with students for six months after separation from college services/programs.
  • Collaborate with workforce development staff, community agencies, and local employers in pursuit of employment opportunities for students.
  • Advocate for the inclusion of students in all aspects of college and campus life.
  • Coordinate and organize efforts of the local Implementation Team.
  • Attend all required NCCCS meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Actively participate in College committees and activities.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, innovation, collaboration, and institutional commitment in all actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Work variable schedule if needed, including evenings/weekends and travel between campuses.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Wellness and Advocacy/Title IX Coordinator and/or the Vice President of Student Services.

Required Qualifications
  • Masters degree in counseling, social services, human services, or a related discipline; alternatively, actively pursuing a Masters degree with substantial progress made in coursework focusing on counseling, social services, human services, or a related field
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Proven ability to deal effectively, cooperatively, and tactfully with students, faculty, staff, and administration
  • Evidence of a career that includes:

o Open-mindedness, fairness, and the ability to see multiple perspectives

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of counseling experience
  • Licensure in a counseling-related field
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Experience working with non-profit and/or community-based organizations in support of clients/students
  • Experience with job placement and/or on-the-job training supports
  • Experience with data management systems, such as Colleague
  • Bi-lingual
