General Statement

The Assistant Director is a member of a team of professionals that implement the mission and vision of Quinsigamond Community College's Adult Community Learning Center. The Adult Community Learning Center (ACLC) provides open-access education programs that help adult learners from diverse backgrounds learn English, obtain a high school equivalency credential, and/or gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to transition to college and career pathways. Specific programming includes Adult Basic Education (ABE), pre and high school equivalency preparation (pre-HSE & HSE), and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The Assistant Director of the Adult Community Learning Center (ACLC) provides guidance for all instructional and academic support systems within the ACLC and provides management to ACLC staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in providing direction and leadership in the management of staff and the administration of programs offered through the Adult Community Learning Center (ACLC), including adult basic education/high school equivalency (ABE/HSE) and English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL/ESL), funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
  • Assist in the designing, implementing, and evaluating of all Adult Community Learning Center programs offered and be an integral member of leading and communicating the annual continuous improvement plan.
  • Facilitate the creation and communication of teaching/staff assignments.
  • Support, guide and lead all instructional and academic support systems within the Adult Community Learning Center.
  • Continuously analyze program data and make recommendations bi-monthly to the Director on strengths and challenges. Metrics include student attendance, retention, level-gains, and completions.
  • Oversee part time and full-time staff performance evaluations, forward recommendations to the Director.
  • Conduct monthly student feedback programs.
  • Work with staff to address program and student concerns.
  • Create, oversee, and disseminate staff and student: onboarding plans, program policies and procedures.
  • Assist in scheduling and planning of administrative meetings with staff; meet with staff and Director to discuss program reporting, performance data, corrective action plans, and other opportunities for improvement; celebrate program successes.
  • Preside over the program's website, social media, staff and student newsletters and staff and student calendars.
  • Identify and recommend staffing needs to the Director; review position descriptions and participate in the hiring of qualified full- and part-time staff.
  • Travel to program sites to provide leadership in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff and instructors to ensure quality programming.
  • Guide and support staff to enhance their skills in performing their duties; oversee individual staff development plans.
  • Represent the college to community organizations and external agencies and attend relevant meetings, conferences, and trainings. Communicate relevant information to staff.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver professional development sessions, for program staff, that align directly with the department's continuous improvement plan, strategic goals, program requirements, student and community needs, and staff interests.
  • Participate in statewide and regional meetings and projects with respect to program enhancement.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with the regulations and policies of the college and any grant guidelines.
  • Aid in the establishment and monitoring of processes by which data is collected as required by the college and/or grant guidelines; aid in monitoring the programs data in the student management system to ensure accuracy; oversee staff who enter and maintain data in the SMS.
  • Participate on relevant college committees, task forces, and subcommittees; attend college programs (e.g., All College Day, etc.)
  • Actively support the teaching and learning process; practicing honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.
  • Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork. Respect the function of dissent in an academic institution while advancing a collegial atmosphere of campus collaboration.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Adult Education or Bachelor's degree with three years of experience in Adult Education with increasing responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering adult education.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working with adults from diverse ethnic, racial, and linguistic groups.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and harmoniously with a team of professionals.
  • Experience and skill using industry-standard computer applications, such as Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.); familiarity and comfort with computers.
  • Ability to travel locally and statewide.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of MA DESE/ACLS policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of recruiting, onboarding, and assessing adult learners.
  • Knowledge of ESOL and GED/HiSET curriculum and instruction.
  • Knowledge of case management best practices.
  • Experience with student record and information systems.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Bilingual.
