The Educational Technology Specialist serves as part of the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CEITL) team and the main point of contact for students seeking technical support for technologies associated with distance education at Laurel Ridge Community College including, but not limited to, Canvas, Zoom, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace for Education. The Educational Technology Specialist will provide individual and group assistance to students who require additional support in online learning tools and systems, including the use of learning management systems, communication environments, productivity tools, and creativity tools. The Educational Technology Specialist interacts with students, faculty, and other college personnel to investigate and resolve instructional technology errors and issues. In collaboration with the CEITL Team and internal partners including Technology Services, the Educational Technology Specialist is responsible for effective implementation and ongoing support of instructional technology applications.
The CEITL Educational Technology Specialist is a college-wide position and reports directly to the Director of the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching and Learning.

This position may require an alternate work schedule for evening and weekend coverage.

Classified: Compensation and Benefits
The hiring range for this position is $45,000.00-$55,000.00. Salary will commensurate with competencies and experience. The position is classified staff and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies. For more information, please visit

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Working knowledge or experience using educational technologies, multimedia techniques and tools, and educational software applications to create instructional materials in various formats including handouts, web pages, and videos (including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace for Education, Adobe applications, Zoom, etc.)
  • Ability to balance attention to detail, attention to policies and procedures, and apply consistency and logic with creativity, flexibility, and innovation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding, and complex work environment that involves intricate assignments, managing multiple tasks and deadlines, and rapidly adapting to changing situations and priorities.
  • Ability to investigate, adapt to, and promote technologies to support teaching, learning, research, and work productivity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and relate to a diverse population in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to teach technological skills to adult learners.
  • Proven subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or credentials.

Additional Considerations
  • Experience working in higher education, including community colleges preferred.
  • Working knowledge of learning/course management systems (Canvas preferred) and communication and data tools such as Slack, Teams, Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft Office, etc. preferred.
