ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF LOS ANGELES

Assistance League of Los Angeles (“the League”) has grown and changed over the last century, evolving from a small local community service group into a national movement for good. Today, the League is an agent for change, one that improves the lives of 22,000 homeless, foster, and impoverished children in L.A. County annually. The Leagues critical needs services and education and arts enrichment programs respond to the present and future needs of the community.

CEO POSITION OVERVIEW

Board Governance: Works with Board to fulfill the organizations mission.

  • Responsible for leading the League in a manner that supports and guides the organizations mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

  • Ability to create and execute effective fundraising strategies including major gifts, grants, and donor cultivation to support the Leagues mission.
  • Skill in building and maintaining strong relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Proficiency in writing compelling grant proposals and securing funding.
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the League, including submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the organization's financial condition.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

Organization Mission and Strategy:  Works with Board and staff to ensure the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.

  • Supports the Auxiliaries in the implementation of League programs that carry out the organizations mission.
  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure the League can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
  • Effectively navigates the complexities of a membership-driven organization to fulfillment of program goals.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate League members and volunteers.
  • Responsible for positive promotion of the Leagues image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.

Organization Operations: Oversees and implements resources to ensure organization operations are appropriate.

  • Responsible for hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
  • Responsible for effective administration of internal League operations.
  • Responsible for all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Reports to and works closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising, and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
  • Supervises and collaborates with organization staff.
  • Strategic planning and implementation.
  • With CFO, develops and executes operation of annual budget.
  • Serves as the Leagues primary spokesperson to the organizations constituents, the media, and the public.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with various organizations and utilizes those relationships to strategically enhance the Leagues mission.
  • Engages in fundraising and developing other revenues.
  • Oversees marketing and other communications efforts.
  • Works collaboratively with Board President in developing board meetings.
  • Establishes employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the organization.
  • Reviews and approves contracts for services.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in relevant field of study.
  • Five or more years of senior nonprofit management experience.
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership.
  • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors and a membership-driven organization.
  • High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organizations strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, and donors.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the organizations mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
  • Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers.
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
  • Strong financial management skills including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Strong work ethic with a passion for the Leagues mission

Pay Range:

  • Salary range starts at $180,000, depending on experience
  • Generous benefits include health insurance, 401k with employer match, paid time off, and annual bonus eligibility
  • The position is full-time with an onsite work schedule in Hollywood, CA 90028
