The IET Director of Strategic Initiatives reports to the Vice President of IET and College Computing and is responsible for leading and supporting initiatives within the IET division by (1) overseeing and managing existing grant awards; (2) establishing and managing on-going relationships with various parties, including internal and external stakeholders related to IET program development; and (3) searching out and applying for funding to support new and on-going initiatives within IET.
Duties and Tasks:
- Create, maintain and nurture community, academic, government and industry partnerships that further IET program development and align with NOVAs strategic plan to position NOVA as the leading IT community college in the nation.
- Support the primary investigators of IETs existing federal. state, local and private grants (NSF, NSA, WIOA, SCHEV, VCCS, etc.) in the management and coordination of activities.
- Oversee administration of grant reporting (progress and budget).
- Support IET leadership, faculty and staff in execution of project outcomes.
- Seek out and apply for new funding opportunities in collaboration with IET personnel and NOVAs Sponsored Projects Office.
- Engage with the NOVA Educational Foundation and other regional or sector-specific industry non-profit/charitable organizations to develop strategies and plans of action for giving and donor recruitment in IET program areas.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Knowledge of policies governing grants and charitable donations.
- Skilled in project planning, time management, and priority setting.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to hold productive in-person and virtual meetings.
- Good interpersonal skills, including listening, and the ability to work with a diverse group.
- Ability to create and maintain an environment of collegiality.
- Ability to supervise, manage, evaluate performance and develop college staff.
- Skilled at collaborative leadership.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Skilled at creating and maintaining external partnerships.
- Demonstrated experience in project management in a higher education environment working with contracts, grants and/or with the management of philanthropic gifts.
- Experience working with a range of stakeholders, including hard-to-engage communities, local government, employer sectors, school districts, and academic institutions.
- Management /Supervisory experience.
- Experience in grant management at a community college.
- Experience in an academic environment in project management.
- Experience in an academic environment managing grants and/or philanthropic gifts.
- Experience working with external partners.
** 1 day of Telework per week after probation period.
