The student library assistant is responsible for shelving, shelf reading, collection upkeep, inventory, and light circulation. Other various duties are required, as needed.
As shelving, collection maintenance, and customer service are essential to the librarys overall ‘health, it is essential that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.

Ability to shelve items using the Dewey Decimal System (training provided)
Ability to maintain confidentiality in regards to patron records and research requests
Ability to do mundane and detailed tasks with accuracy
Familiarity of the English alphabet
Basic computer/ internet skills such a typing, copy and paste, attaching documents to emails, printing, etc.

A strong commitment to freedom of expression and open access to information
The desire to facilitate exceptional experiences for all Hay Library users
A workable knowledge of Microsoft Windows and G-Suite products
Experience using copy machines and printers
Experience using the Dewey Decimal System
Experience working in a library
Experience using Canvas, TurnItIn, and NetTutor
