Since its opening in 2014, the Student Village and its dedicated, friendly and helpful staff have maintained a focus on creating a premier student experience at SUNY Broome with a safe and secure building, and student support for both living and learning. The Student Village's diverse residential population has the advantage of having access within the building to programming space, fitness space and study space, and in close proximity to academic resources, the main cafe, bookstore, clubs and activities, sporting events, and much more.

 


Job Description:

The Facilities Assistant is a part-time, temporary, hourly, seasonal position, working no more than 29.5 hours per week. This administrative position is part of the Faculty-Student Association (F-SA) of Broome Community College, Inc., reporting to the Facilities Operations Lead. Hours may fluctuate based on workload and the needs of the business.

General Responsibilities:

The Facilities Assistant works with the Facilities Operations Lead to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of the BCC HDC housing facility, the Student Village. The Facilities Assistant assists the Facilities Operations Lead with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, environmental, drainage and communication systems of the facility and related property.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting the Facilities Operations Lead in the timely completion of maintenance and repair work, by directly performing the work, and coordinating the work of contractors/vendors.
  • Assists the Facilities Operations Lead with ensuring that the facility and related property, at all times, are in compliance with building and fire codes.
  • Ensures that the appearance of the exterior and interior of the facility, related property, grounds, and parking lot are maintained to a high standard.
  • In the absence of the Facilities Operations Lead, serves in an on-call/emergency facilities response capacity.
  • Works closely with Student Village staff and SUNY Broome Community College Campus departments including Public Safety, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Facilities, Information Technology Services and others to ensure the safety and security of residents, staff, and guests, as well as a clean, well-maintained living/learning/working facility and related property, grounds and parking lot.
  • Works with the Facilities Operations Lead and Student Village staff to conduct Room Condition Report Inspections and timely completion of damage billing reports.
  • Assists the Facilities Operations Lead in investigating and evaluating the immediate and long-range facilities energy requirements, including the evaluation and implementation of "green energy" initiatives in coordination with SUNY Broome Campus Facilities.
  • Maintains cooperative and positive relations with SUNY Broome Campus constituents, students, BCC HDC Board Members, contractors, vendors, public officials, and the public.
  • Assists the Facilities Operations Lead in conducting investigations, troubleshooting, diagnosing and reporting problems within the facility's systems.
  • Assists with inventory management.
  • Assists with furniture moves.
  • Professionally works with and around distressed students.
  • In the absence of the Facilities Operations Lead, may assist in the supervisions of Student Village student staff.
  • Performs other essential functions and related duties, as assigned.

 


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in facility operations, building trades, or closely related areas.

Required Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to correspond with SUNY Broome personnel, students, vendors, contractors, engineers, architects, and others in a productive, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, staff, and external constituencies.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours to meet the needs of the business and students.
