PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Executive Director (ED) for Academic Advising and Student Success will provide statewide leadership and oversight for the Colleges academic advising model, advising systems, and related retention initiatives. The ED will collaborate with student affairs, academic affairs, enrollment services, financial aid, and workforce and careers areas to create an environment in which students are intentionally engaged in the academic advising process, including but not limited to the development of academic goals, selection of the appropriate academic program with the correct concentration/transfer option, and selection of courses.

The ED will identify national best practices pertaining to academic advising and its direct impact on student success, credential production, transfer, and degree completion. The ED will provide vision and strategic planning that supports the works of campus academic advising centers, academic advising staff and faculty advisors, and that fulfills the Colleges mission and strategic objectives.
 
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide statewide oversight and training for overall operations of the academic advising model.
  • Engage with the colleges product owners to ensure that the Colleges systems designed to support students are used effectively in a developmental advising process.
  • Contribute to the development of retention strategies and provide periodic analysis of impact.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, and assessment of measurable student learning outcome for academic advising. The measurable outcomes will contribute to the Colleges strategic plan and be reported accordingly.
  • Provide leadership in the development of intentional and educational processes and interventions that assists students in clarifying personal and academic career goals through the use of appropriate student development, human development, and student learning theories; interpreting and understanding placement scores, program curricula, and pre-requisites; and gaining a basic understanding of the Colleges registration process and processes that need to be completed prior to the beginning of each semester.
  • Work in collaboration with academic affairs and student records to develop and maintain an accurate database of academic programs, curriculum, and degree requirements, including annual changes or modifications to curriculum and course prerequisites.
  • Convene, train, and communicate regularly with campus directors/leads for academic advising.
  • Convene, train, and communicate regularly with campus transfer advocates.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President for Academic Affairs maintain transfer training materials and student resources for transfer.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to maximize opportunities related to crosswalks using credit-for-prior-learning.
  • Utilize a communication plan to engage the College community in the academic advising process, as well disseminate information College-wide when appropriate.
  • Coordinate with other student affairs and academic affairs areas to ensure accuracy of advising materials distributed to students, faculty, and staff. Work closely with the financial aid office, academic affairs, and marketing to implement College policy related to College and Department of Education satisfactory academic progress.
  • Develop and produce procedure handbooks, training materials, and template academic advising tools.
  • Ensure advising policies and practices are in compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other pertinent federal, state, and College regulations and policies.
  • Develop and implement College-wide training on Ivy Advising for faculty, staff, and administrators. Assist in the planning for statewide college events. Actively participate in state, regional, and national professional development opportunities, and organizations, as well as College-wide committees, taskforces, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the institutions academic programs, curriculum, practices, as well as academic and student policies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 
Masters degree in personnel, counseling, adult or higher education, or a discipline related to student advising required.
 
Five years of progressively responsible student advising experience required.
