CCT Registered Nurse (Special Events)

Reports To: Critical Care Transport Program Manager

Department: IFT Operations

Status: Non-Exempt

We are seeking compassionate and professional Registered Nurses looking for a new opportunity of delivering patient care. Special event nursing requires "outside of the box" thinking and strong problem-solving skills. Join our AMR team of dedicated, patient-focused professionals.

While providing the highest quality care, the Special Event Nurse performs basic and advanced life support at special events that include but are not limited to sporting events, marathons, races, and concerts. Care includes over the counter medication administration, basic and advanced life support, and/or triage.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Special Event Nurse provides direct patient care to the ill and injured, sometimes collaboratively with a Paramedic, EMT, or Physician partner during the special event and operates within the scope of a California Registered Nurse with an expanded scope as approved by AMR Medical Direction.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responds to patient care and/or critical care transport unit calls according to program protocols
  • Provides high quality routine, emergency, and OTC care of the patient in the event environment in accordance with established Special Event program policies, patient care guidelines, standards of care, and under the medical control of the assigned Physician
  • Provides patient care within the Registered Nurse scope of practice as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing and per the Special Event guidelines, utilizing critical thinking skills to manage the critically ill or injured adult or pediatric patient
  • Performs a focused assessment when care is requested
  • Documents all assessment findings, therapeutic interventions performed, and patient responses on the Patient Care Record
  • Notes and documents all Physician orders
  • The Special Event RN is responsible for the care of the patient including any emergency procedures the patient may require while under their care. These procedures may include but are not limited to CPR, ACLS, and emergency airway maintenance
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Completes daily/regularly scheduled equipment checks
  • Maintains equipment in working order and ensures Special Event equipment is kept clean and fully stocked. Ensures all equipment is maintained through course of shift and returned in working order
  • Accurately completes supply, billing, and data collection forms as required
  • Participates in Special Event Program Quality Improvement activities
  • Maintains an adequate knowledge of and complies with all company policies and procedures, codes of safe practice, and Special Event policies and patient care guidelines
  • Maintains personal knowledge of current nursing practice
  • Maintains personal knowledge of current EMT and EMT-P scope of practice in California and the applicable county in which the Special Event team operates
  • Completes documentation on Controlled Substances per Special Event policy
  • Participates in company-wide programs such as Safety and Risk Management and Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills with all external and internal customers, including patients and their families, hospital staff, the community, EMT's, ALS/BLS Operations personnel and Special Events/CCT/IFT administration
  • Attends and participates in all required staff meetings and annual trainings
  • Completes patient care documentation per program policy
  • Maintains all required licensure and certifications in accordance with company policy
  • Represents the Special Events program and AMR in a professional manner
  • Adheres to AMR Special Events uniform/dress code policy. Primary uniform for Special Event Nurses is embroidered navy scrubs
  • Attends and maintains company EVOC training/certification if driving company vehicles
  • Performs and facilitates employee and community vaccination/surveillance events that include but are not limited to blood pressure checks, immunization events, Tb testing, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REGISTERED NURSE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse within California
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS provider status
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course Certification (TNCC)
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Driving record in compliance with AMR policy regarding insurability

    • IS-700A (NIMS)
    • IS-800B (NIMS)
  • Must have experience, knowledge, and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate emergency, urgent, and non-urgent care.
  • Acute care nursing experience which includes:
    • Knowledge of professional nursing practice and theory
    • Ability to assess, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate patient care activities
    • Ability to function independently
    • Ability to prioritize, delegate, and utilize critical thinking skills in a variety of patient care situations
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow personnel, patients and their families, hospital staff, the public, and other collaborating agencies
    • Prior Paramedic experience in a busy 911 system will be considered in addition to Nursing experience
    • Prior Military experience acting as Corpsmen or equivalent will be considered in addition to Nursing experience

REGISTERED NURSE PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  • Current Critical Care or Emergency Department experience
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Advanced certification:
    • CEN
    • CCRN
    • CFRN
    • CTRN
    • TCRN
    • C-NPT

Salary Range: $43.00 Hourly
