The Movement Instructor for The Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrated Therapies and Healthy Living offers a variety of movement programs, participates in various research protocols related to physical activity, and may provide individual movement appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Plans sessions including selecting appropriate music and movements according to participants capabilities.
  • Monitors participants progress and provides correction or adaptations as needed.
  • Teaches proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion.
  • Ensures a safe environment by maintaining equipment and supplies in a clean, operable and safe manner.
  • Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and infection control procedures.
  • Follows up with clinical care team as necessary.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings and attends conferences as directed.
  • Follows established policies, protocols, and procedures. After successful completion of required training, provides assistance with implementation of the study protocol.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Completes study-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Knowledgeable in area of expertise.
  • experience in group instruction or group facilitation.
  • demonstrates ability to instruct/facilitate groups.
  • 5-7 yrs. teaching/facilitating experience.
  • must have current license or certification.
  • must have/obtain CPR Certification.
  • Experience with cancer patients and/or chronically ill patients strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrates understanding of unique needs and behaviors of the patient populations served.
  • Must possess a basic understanding of health care clinical operations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with Zakim Center staff as well as all other oncology interdisciplinary team members.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and teaching.
  • Needs to organize work, complete tasks with an attention to detail efficiently and independently, and meet deadlines for multiple tasks and inquiries.
  • Must have expert knowledge in a lifestyle intervention related field, i.e. exercise.
  • Research and/or oncology experience preferred.
