ABOUT THE COLLEGE
Palo Verde College is a publicly supported 2-year college located in the beautiful Southeastern California desert. Yearly enrollment is approximately 7,000 students (full and part-time).

LOCATION
Palo Verde College is located in the City of Blythe at one of the busiest entrance points to California. The college is located in a desert oasis adjacent to the beautiful Colorado River and the Palo Verde Valley. Blythe, and the fertile Palo Verde Valley, is primarily a farming and ranching area. Boating, fishing and hunting attract many tourists. The Palo Verde Valley is centrally located between Phoenix and Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Mexican border. The valleys great climate, with more than 350 days of sunshine and mild winters, attracts thousands of winter visitors every year.
NATURE OF THE POSITION
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean of Counseling, the Counselors responsibilities include individual and group counseling, educational planning activities designed to enhance personal/social/emotional well-being of students and related services to meet the needs of prospective new and continuing students. The ideal candidate understand the importance of holding ourselves accountable as educators for closing equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices. This position includes serving students in Blythe, Needles, local state prisons, as well as distance education students.Examples of Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides academic, career, and personal counseling to a diversified community college population
2. Provides guidance and counseling services to credit and non-credit students; this includes advising, orientation, mentoring and interpretation of placement measures.
3. Provide guidance and counseling on transfer, career, vocational, and other student success programs, utilizing various instruments and practices
4. Provides regular follow up counseling
5. Maintain student educational plans utilizing technology tools and resources through advising modules
6. Actively engage in technological tools designed to assist the student and institution in moving students toward goal completion
7. Ensures student populations are engaged in a guided pathways framework, including completion of comprehensive educational plans.
8. Meets with probationary and dismissed students, monitors progress regularly and assists student in applying for reinstatement.
9. Serves as a resource for faculty in dealing with individual student problems; refers students to appropriate campus and community resources as needed.
10. Continue in related professional career development throughout employment and remain current in the field through course work, conferences, workshops and other appropriate means.
11. Serve as a recruiter and liaison within the district.
12. Participate in full-time staff responsibilities; including faculty, and student services meetings, and serve on various campus committees.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.Educational/Experience Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. The counselor shall meet the minimum qualifications required for the discipline, consisting of: a Masters in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling; OR the equivalent (NOTE: Pursuant to Title 5 section 53410.1, a bachelors degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline).
2. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.PLEASE NOTE: Generally, a Master's degree is a minimum requirement for academic areas of instruction. Applicants who feel they meet the equivalent to the above-stated minimum qualifications must complete the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency in order to be considered. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Community College experience
2. Bi-lingual (Spanish-English)
3. Experience in the use of computer technology as a teaching and advising tool, including experience with course management systems (i.e. Canvas, etc.)
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
5. Ability to work successfully in a team environment
6. Ability to qualify for State Prison clearance.Supplemental Information

CLASSIFICATION & SALARY
1. Temporary, part-time, hourly assignment, certificated position on a needed basis.
