JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Career Services provides direct leadership and oversight over career development and job search support services for CCV students. This professional will engage with students, alumni, employers and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure career advising, career exploration, and career learning are integrated into the student experience at CCV. The Director of Career Services will collaborate with CCV career services and workforce professionals to expand and enhance experiential learning opportunities as well as increase student participation and engagement, focused on student success. This is a multi-year, grant funded position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, implement, administer, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the specific services, programs, and operations of the areas of career development, experiential learning, and financial wellness.
- Create, edit, and implement policies and procedures related to career development across Student Success to optimize student outcomes.
- Oversee implementation of periodic surveys to assess career outcomes of undergraduates.
- Develop and modify services and programs in accordance with institutional objectives (i.e. accessibility, equity) and student needs.
- Identify, design, implement, assess, and continually improve data-informed career development, experiential learning, and financial wellness initiatives and processes that are accessible, inclusive, and equitable.
- Promote collaboration and partnership among all stakeholders, internal and external, to achieve career development, experiential learning, and financial wellness goals and objectives.
- Build capacity to operationalize essential objectives related to career learning that are part of CCV's current embedded career development course sequence.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners. Strengthen relationships with Vermont employers who offer experiential career learning opportunities for CCV students.
- Create networking and career learning outside of a student's coursework, including both virtual/remote as well as in-person events at CCV and businesses statewide.
- Connect with CCV alumni to serve on career panels, connect students to Vermont employers and engage in other meaningful ways that spotlight them as role models and real-life examples of how a CCV education can pay off and lead to a better job or career.
- Work with staff and faculty to integrate career learning across CCV's programs through structured assignments and discussions that connect coursework with field experiences.
- Demonstrate inclusivity and provide excellent customer service in all modalities, including in-person, telephone, e-mail, video call, live chat, texting, and the like.
- Write/assist in writing proposals for grant/external funding to expand career and internship opportunities, prepare reports for funding agencies, and the like.
- Lead communications with faculty, staff, and students about programs and services.
- Exercise supervisory authority over and hold regular staff meetings with career development staff.
- Confer regularly with staff to collaboratively plan and coordinate activities, assign and review work, assist with difficult or unusual tasks, resolve problems, and provide other needed support.
- Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that supports the professional growth of staff while championing a commitment to service excellence and student success.
- Plan and administer the department operating budget.
- Keep abreast of current developments in the field. Participate in various regional and national professional groups and organizations. Participate in professional development.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility: Yes. Will supervise at least one and up to three staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in an appropriate discipline plus at least five (5) years professional experience in education, student services, counseling, or a related professional field or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
Preferred Education and Experience: Master's degree and more than seven (7) years of relevant progressive leadership in higher education or other complex organization.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of higher education and career services and practices, including familiarity with student development theory
- Ability to work in and foster a highly collaborative and student-centered environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills; uses emotional intelligence and discretion in communications
- Ability to working effectively and cooperatively with diverse constituents
- Effective listening and analytical skills to assess needs and develop successful solutions to complex problems
- Knowledge of community partners, state agencies, and/or other organizations that provide career pathway training and/or support services
- Ability to develop and steward external partnerships
- Demonstrated skill in planning and prioritizing work activities; must be detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment
- Strong technological proficiency
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of participants, staff, faculty and project partners
Physical Requirements: Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties as a result of repetitive motion and/or long periods of standing or sitting. Duties require little physical effort in work with light to moderate (up to 25lbs) easy-to-handle materials.
Working Conditions: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with many and frequent distractions such as noise and interruptions. Work schedule may vary during high volume periods. Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, required. Some travel to all CCV centers is required.
