Forsyth Technical Community College is a catalyst for equitable economic mobility, empowering lives and transforming communities. As aligned with the colleges vision and mission, the Academic Coordinator will provide individual student support for the newly federally-funded TRiO – Upward Bound programs. The grants serve 120 first-generation and low-income students in (60) Robert Glenn & (60) North Forsyth High Schools to increase their grades, retention rates, graduation rates, knowledge of the college application process, and college enrollment. The position works in partnership with Robert Glenn & North Forsyth High Schools teachers and guidance counselor staff as well as with community organizations in Forsyth County.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or higher in Education, Social Services, Guidance and Counseling, Education Administration, Adult and Higher Education or a related field
- Knowledge of working with low-income, first generation, students with disabilities and/or students from diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge and/or experience working in a collegiate environment
- Masters Degree
- Experience working in a TRIO program
- Professional and/or personal experience overcoming barriers similar to those of Project participants
- Bi-lingual Skills (Spanish- English)
- Experience in pre-college program implementation involving cultural activities, workshops, seminars, and group activities for high school students
- Experience supervising students (high school or college) staff in a residential setting.
- Provide individual guidance to approximately 60 low-income, first-generation students as they navigate high school graduation, postsecondary education entry and completion
- Recruit eligible participants, design, and maintain Individual Success Plans
- Continually monitor and document participants academic progress
- Plan and implement after school tutoring; Saturday Academy; Summer Academy; and other key Forsyth Tech Upward Bound events/opportunities
- Advise students in course selection to ensure their on-time high school graduation and completion of a college prep pathway
- Plan and implement workshops and activities that support skills development, motivation, and college, career, and life readiness
- Meet regularly with high school counselors, teachers, social workers, and other staff to support student academic progress and project objectives
- Meet regularly with parents/guardians; design/present at parent/guardian workshops; and, assist with community referrals for parents as needed
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners for referrals
- Establish and maintain required data records of project and participant activities, including student eligibility, progress, and academic performance; student, parent, and community partner engagement and referrals; and other project management record-keeping.
- Participate in project evaluation activities and reporting
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate
