Job Description

Sinclair Community College is a comprehensive community college with an enrollment of over 20,000 students that offers career and transfer programs leading to associate degrees, certificate programs, and continuing education opportunities.
The Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Real Estate Department Division at Sinclair Community College is seeking a tenured or tenure-track faculty to serve as the Chair of the Accounting and Economics Department to begin August 16, 2024.

Principal Accountabilities
Performance of the six critical performance areas:
    • Scholarship and Professional Growth: Maintain and seek to improve currency and competence in the discipline as a teacher
    • Teaching and Learning Facilitation: Participate in the continuing development and implementation of the departments curriculum through teaching that reflects a strong commitment to fostering student success
    • Assessment and Evaluation: Implement evaluations according to established standards and use assessment data to continuously improve teaching and learning
    • Student Development: Through in-class and out-of-class initiatives, actively seek to advance the development of individual students and their capacity to meet their educational goals
    • Curriculum Design: In collaboration with colleagues, actively contribute to the continuous review and revision of the departments curriculum
    • Workplace and Community Service: Contribute to the operation and advancement of the college through committee service and other activities

 


Specific responsibilities include:

Chair responsibilities ·
  • Provide leadership for the continuing development and assessment of the departments curriculum and programs, including the accredited programs
  • Complete administrative duties as department chair (including but not limited to class scheduling, staffing, budgeting, and employee performance reviews) in accordance with college deadlines
  • Regularly interface with the departments advisory committee
  • Lead the department in continuous improvement of classes and the degree program
  • Provide leadership to advance the mission and goals of the department, division, and institution
  • Represent the department at the college and in the community. Facilitate alignment of curricula with that of area colleges and universities to facilitate students successful transfer and meet the needs of local industry
  • Lead other administrative/departmental activities as assigned

Teaching responsibilities
  • Teaching primarily accounting courses and other business courses as needed
  • Developing and revising the accounting curriculum ensuring continuous alignment with accounting practices and state mandates. Curriculum responsibilities will include traditional, online, and blended courses
  • Required to teach day/evening, face-to-face classes at the downtown Dayton campus and other Sinclair sites in addition to web-based instruction
  • Involvement in both the internal college community as well as outside organizations in the Miami Valley region
  • Chair release time and teaching hours should amount to a total of 30 credit hours across the academic year, encompassing both fall and spring semesters
  • Maintain office hours as required by Sinclair policy
  • Attend department and division meetings
  • Participate in orientation and in-service activities
  • Participate in the colleges evaluation processes
  • Participate in all sessions of the New Faculty Orientation program
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements
  • Minimum of a Master of Accountancy, Master of Taxation, Master of Finance or MBA.
  • Possess and maintain an active accounting certification as a CPA, CMA, CIA, or EA during employment required
  • Professionalism and outstanding written and oral communication skills required
  • Ability to effectively use technology required
  • Professional accounting work experience including audit and tax experience preferred
  • Preference will be given to candidates with teaching or training experience in accounting with evidence of quality performance preferred
  • Demonstration of willingness to pursue professional development activities required
  • The candidate will be required to maintain an active CPA, CMA, CIA, or EA license during employment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population required
  • Candidates will be required to demonstrate student-centered teaching strategies during the interview. A 10-minute teaching demonstration will be on a predetermined accounting topic to be communicated by the Chair of the Screening Committee before the interview
  • Familiarity with teaching methodologies, instructional technologies, and learning outcomes assessment strategies that support the learning college principles preferred
