Position Summary

The Opportunity: This position reports to and works closely with the Executive Dean of Arts and Sciences and Libraries to assure Arts and Sciences and Libraries program quality and efficiency and to meet the enrollment targets and priorities established through the strategic planning process. The Associate Dean works with instructional deans across the college district to establish efficient class schedules that meet enrollment targets, and monitors enrollment and part-time faculty payroll and supply budgets. The Associate Dean secures new grant funding to further the strategic priorities of the college and supports the development of new academic programs that are aligned with the enrollment and economic development strategies of the college district. This position oversees all dual credit programs that involve Arts and Sciences courses and departments. This position is responsible for developing, writing, implementing and meeting all performance objectives, compliance requirements, and managing budgets for grant-funded programs. The successful candidate will be an articulate advocate for academic programs, faculty, and the College mission, as well as a collaborative colleague of the other units of the College. The Associate Dean will represent the Executive Dean of Arts and Sciences and Libraries with the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Promote the continuous improvement of instructional programs in collaboration with Department Chairs;
  • Collect, analyze and report program data related to labor market demand, enrollment, efficiency, access, completion, placement, articulation, and other metrics as needed;
  • Collect, analyze, and report enrollment data for instructional units across district;
  • Perform schedule analyses for instructional units across district;
  • Support Arts and Sciences and Libraries program learning outcome assessment and Program Review;
  • Draft and send written communications to faculty, deans, and partners on behalf of the Executive Dean of Arts and Sciences and Libraries;
  • Provide leadership to meet district-wide enrollment targets and priorities established through strategic planning;
  • Monitor part-time faculty budgets and recommend course cancellation or section additions;
  • Review faculty load sheets and provide support for Department Chairs in staffing courses;
  • Collaborate with Scheduling Specialist to monitor enrollment and waitlists and to ensure that the schedule is accurate;
  • Track and manage departmental supply budgets. Communicate supply budgets with department chairs;
  • Collaborate with the Academic Affairs Coordinator to manage Arts & Sciences course fees;
  • Support Department Chairs in securing and documenting course articulations with four-year institutions;
  • Provide leadership in the revision and addition of courses and learning outcomes;
  • In collaboration with the Director of Dual Credit Programming, provide leadership and oversight for College in the High School (CiHS) and Running Start;
  • Serve as admin support for any Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that involve Arts and Sciences courses and departments in collaboration with Associate Dean of Instruction for Workforce Education Pathways;
  • Identify new grant funding sources to further institutional priorities and develop, write, and implement grant programs;
  • Assure performance objectives and compliance requirements for grant funds are met;
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement strategies/practices for increasing student success and retention and assess and evaluate these efforts;
  • Serve as liaison with college programs in promoting student success including Basic Skills, Workforce Education, Enrollment Management, Counseling, and Financial Aid;
  • Participate as a member of the Office of Academic Affairs & Student Services Team;
  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with high school and four-year partners;
  • Provide support to Executive Dean of Arts and Sciences and Libraries in collecting all faculty evaluation materials;
  • Ensure compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreement in all staffing and contract issues;
  • Participate in various admin groups including the Strategic Enrollment Management Council and governance committees;
  • Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Masters degree in education or related field;
  • Five (5) years work experience which reflects mid-management level experience or school administration including supervisory and budget experience;
  • Experience in writing/securing grants and outside funding supporting college programs and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in education or related field;
  • Community college teaching experience;
  • Community college administrative experience as department chair or director;
  • Bilingual with an emphasis in Spanish.

 

Salary, Benefits, Conditions of Employment, Application Procedure

Salary and Benefits:

  • Annual salary rate for this twelve-month, 100% of full-time position is $96,000 depending on experience;
  • Contracts are written annually for the period of July 1 to June 30. This position will be filled as soon practical after a candidate is identified and the salary will be pro-rated for the remaining contract period.
  • This position is exempt from civil service. This position is eligible for overtime.
