Montgomery College has an immediate need for an full-time ACES Student Success Coordinator for the Achieving Academic Excellence and Success Program. The work schedule is typically 7:30am-4:00pm with occasional weekend and evening hours. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 27 position located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. One (1) day of telework may be granted based on the needs of the unit.

The ACES Student Success Coordinator will provide a broad range of services supporting high school juniors and seniors and work as part of a team that seeks to create a seamless pathway for students from high school to college completion. The program focuses on identifying and supporting students that are underrepresented in higher education and those that are the first in their family to attend college. The coordinator will meet with students to assess their needs and then provide follow-up student and academic support.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement program policies, programs and curriculum that promotes the educational development and ultimate graduation of each ACES student from Montgomery County high school and gain admission to college.
  • Serve as an Montgomery College ACES program coordinator for the MCPS (Montgomery County Public School), high school they are placed in to coordinate the delivery of college readiness activities.
  • Work with MCPS counselors and faculty to identify and coordinate recruitment efforts for students in the target population in order to provide a broad range of support to students who have been identified as at-risk of not attending or completing college.
  • Some support work activities include assistance with college applications, financial aid/scholarships, college and career research, college visits, referrals to academic support services, and preparation resources to take college placement tests. 
  • The coordinator will deliver workshops, programming, and services related to the work activities listed above.Most of the work is performed at the assigned high school, with wok performed on campuses and partner high schools on an as needed basis.
  • Coordinate with the high school staff and Montgomery College staff on logistics such as securing office and classroom space, reserving computer labs and other auxiliary spaces, scheduling field trips, and determine ways of establishing and maintaining effective communication with students, parents, high school staff and counselors, and community entities.
  • Provide one-on-one case management and facilitate group meetings with program participants to identify barriers to determine and implement an individual success plan for each ACES student. Case management includes working with a caseload of 11th and 12th graders, while simultaneously recruiting 10th grade students for the program.
  • Coordinate visits to colleges, especially Montgomery College and Universities at Shady grove.
  • Use the ACES data base and other tools to track all program activities and student progress, as well as contribute to the evaluation practices at both high school and program level.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years case management experience: working with at-risk populations in a high school, community college or community-based program, assisting students with college preparation and access; working with college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship processes; academic coaching, personal counseling, classroom teaching, or referral to social service agencies OR Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years case management experience: working with at-risk populations in a high school, community college or community-based program, assisting students with college preparation and access; working with college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship processes; academic coaching, personal counseling, classroom teaching, or referral to social service agencies. An equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Thorough knowledge of college admissions, financial aid and scholarship processes; of academic advising, personal counseling, classroom teaching and case management.
  • Knowledge of career decision-making and career assessments.
  • Skill in verbal and written communications, interpersonal relations, computer technologies (i.e., word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation programs), leadership and organization.
  • Ability to use a wide range of communication techniques depending upon specific educational or personnel challenges; to work cooperatively with others; to speak to small and large groups
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Additional Requirement:

  • Background check with fingerprints must be completed and cleared prior to hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in foreign language preferred

Hiring Range: $63,375 - $82,376 annually. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.
