Job Description
The Academic Advisor, Allied Health and Nursing serves as the academic advisor responsible for advising students with an intent to enter into the allied health and nursing
selective admissions programs. Under the guidance and direction of the Dean of General Studies in collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean of Allied Health and Nursing, this
position performs in alignment with the Colleges mission and strategic direction in service to students and their success.

II. Position Duties and Responsibilities
o Assists with the recruitment and placement of students;
o Ensures student involvement in the advising process, maintaining sufficient advising hours compatible with student schedules by meeting with students at least twice per semester and additionally as needed;
o Advises student having difficulty in course / clinical work;
o Develops intervention strategies where necessary;
o Maintains appropriate student files, including selective admissions applications;
o Directs students to appropriate departments and College resources;
o Evaluates graduation progress, completions, and reviews graduation applications prior to final approval by the Dean;
o Keeps track of student progress in cross disciplines and updates student records.
o Works in collaboration with College departments including, but not limited to, Admissions, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, etc.; and
o Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
Bachelors Degree in an allied health or nursing degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for
Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent as verified by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.
Bachelors Degree in physical therapy, dental hygiene, or nursing preferred. Hocking College – Academic Advisor, Allied Health and Nursing
Bachelors Degree in an allied health or nursing degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for
Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent as verified by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.
Bachelors Degree in physical therapy, dental hygiene, or nursing preferred. Hocking College – Academic Advisor, Allied Health and Nursing
Minimum of 2 years of full-time, professional, field experience in an allied health or nursing field.
Evidence of professional development in the field of concentration as demonstrated by activity in professional associations, consultative practice; participation in seminars, workshops, and formal coursework, and individual reading and research.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Strong technology skills including usage of email, student information system, andlearning management system
Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of subject area.
Knowledge of educational theory and application.
Knowledge of learners and individual learning styles.
Interest in and commitment to the learner-centered educational process.
Educational technology skills.
Maintains confidentiality.
Caring attitude toward students.
Learning and self-motivation skills.
Willingness to extend self to help students succeed.
