Network Administrator
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Support and maintain all computing and telecommunication technology systems. Participate in research and development to facilitate operational efficiency, advancement, and innovation that enable the department to achieve its purposes and advance the mission of Marion Technical College (the “College”).
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to inquiries from students, College employees and customers in a timely manner; maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with the College, HIPAA, FERPA, student records, and any other protected documentation.
- Assist in the coordination and administration of special projects including communications, meetings, and other tasks as assigned. Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and the College.
- Serve as a liaison between the department, faculty, students, and other College administrative staff. Handle sensitive information and unanticipated discretionary matters in a judicious manner. Assist in the formulation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Collaborate on configuration, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and support for all IT and telecommunication technology systems components, network services, security initiatives, and communication systems.
- Manage and monitor daily operations of computing and telecommunications technology systems including, but not limited to, the support and maintenance of the College networks, servers, computers, peripheral hardware, software, and security. Participate in investigation, planning, implementation, and support of computing, communication, and instructional delivery products and services.
- Support and maintain all computing and telecommunication technology systems, including all campus-wide networks (Ethernet, VLAN, Fiber-channel, BYOD, wireless, etc.), all hardware/virtual desktops and servers, telephone and VoIP systems, firewalls and security applications, email and directory services, and backup/disaster recovery of data and systems.
- Serve as advanced technical support for all IT telecommunications and technology systems, including but not limited to: Ethernet, BYOD, wireless, Fiber-channel and SAN networks; hardware/virtual desktops and servers; telephone and VoIP systems; firewalls and security applications; and email and directory services.
- Manage the implementation, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all computing and telecommunications technology systems. Preserve college assets and data by implementing disaster recovery measures, back-up procedures and information security and control methods. Verify files and records are properly backed up according to departmental procedure and routinely confirm effectiveness of the disaster recovery procedures through simulated recovery of the data.
- Provide support of College-maintained and IT-supported technology in all campus buildings (including OSUM) and at all off-campus locations including prison locations, as assigned. Provide on-call coverage for evenings, nights, and weekends, as assigned.
- Provide assistance and support to students, employees and visitors seeking IT Help Desk assistance, including in academic labs, classrooms, offices, and off-site locations (i.e. high schools, prisons, etc.) as assigned.
- Create and pursue a plan to develop professional opportunities within the scope of work responsibilities, department, and College objectives. Open to pursuing developing education and knowledge base, which may include higher educational degrees, certifications, and advance current knowledge of and practice in the discipline. Demonstrate self-motivation and ability to research and continually update knowledge and skills. Maintain current certifications appropriate for position, as required.
- Maintain liaison with colleagues in other institutions and actively participate in professional associations. Attend on- or off-campus College meetings and serve on departmental and College committees as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in information technology related field required; bachelors degree preferred. Three to five years of relevant experience using server, storage, network virtualization, and firewall technologies administration and operations and strong customer service experience required. Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft® Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and excellent computer and related technology skills required. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and complete projects on time with minimal direction and oversight. Experience in public higher education highly desired. Any of combination of work experience, training, and/or education equivalent may be accepted. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Successfully pass a background check prior to and maintain throughout employment. Valid drivers license or dependable transportation required. Smart phone required to allow access to MFA-protected services.

Microsoft® Distributed File System Ethernet (TCP/IP and VLAN) networking
Switch and firewall administration Network security and disaster recovery
Windows desktop and servers vSphere (ESX/ESXi servers) / vCenter
Microsoft® 365 services
Additional preferred (but not required) experience with any of the following:
Web services support MS® SharePoint
SQL Server and Reporting Services PHP and Visual Basic/.NET scripting
Enterprise backup software VBS/AD/Exchange Powershell scripting
Desktop application publishing and security (Microsoft® System Center)
ADA SPECIFICATIONS
This position is classified as Staff - Management, Professional, Administrative, and Support and will perform a wide range of professional and administrative support functions for the college, primarily in an office setting. Further information may be obtained from the Office of Human Resources.
