Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Student Athlete Academic Counselor (Adjunct) will engage student athletes through effective enrollment and case management interventions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides individualized academic counseling to student athletes, specifically to academically at-risk student athletes.
- Engage student athletes in establishing successful behaviors and monitor their progress by connecting students to different on and off campus resources, assisting with the coordination and implementation of retention strategies, and providing intervention for students.
- Provide service to the college by assisting with campus reports, attending meetings, and serving occasional evening/weekend hours, and participating in student orientation programs and workshops.
- Works with other Athletic staff and coaches to assist in developing and monitoring student progress toward increasing effective retention and completion plans, including maintaining student athlete eligibility.
- Monitors and evaluates student athletes' progress in class and takes appropriate action to address any concerns.
- Documents case management, educational planning and other student interventions in student files, as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess one of the following:
- Master's Degree and Bachelor's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or closely related field, and one year of professional experience; OR
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field as listed above, and three years of experience; OR
- Master's Degree in a relevant field as listed above, plus a Bachelor's degree in a non-specific field (other than those listed), and two years of experience.
The successful candidate will have experience with advising and a thorough understanding of exemplary approaches to support community college students. The successful candidate must possess a high attention to detail; excellent written and oral communications skills; and an ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while remaining organized. They must also have a proactive nature; exceptional judgement; and a collegial and team-oriented temperament. Proficiency in software systems including Microsoft Office applications is required. The ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information; an ability to be flexible and adaptive to changing needs and priorities; a strong student-centered orientation; and an ability to work with a team of diverse faculty, staff and students are essential.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice in all college policies, practices, and personnel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual verbal and written fluency strongly preferred. Experience using platforms such as PeopleSoft, Degree Works, and Starfish is desirable.
Additional Information:
WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule will be four days weekly, Monday - Friday, totaling 28 hours per week. Some night and weekend work may be required. This is a nine-month position, working mid-August through mid-May.
POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $45.32 per hour. No benefits.
