Faculty | Full-time, tenure track position | 9 months

Position Summary

MCC instructors are higher education professionals who champion student learning. They engage and inspire students and apply innovative teaching and learning pedagogies to reach a variety of learners. Our instructors assess student learning to ensure student success, staying abreast of current and emerging trends in their disciplines. They collaborate within the College as discipline experts and help the College to reach its strategic goals through active participation in college committees and promotion of the College to future students throughout our community. 
McHenry County Colleges Engineering Department is part of the Foglia Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation, a state-of-the art facility that houses programs in the engineering, manufacturing, and skilled trades industries.   It houses the Engineering, Engineering Technology, Automation, Robotics & Mechatronics, and other high skill programs. 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Including, but not limited to:

  • Teach a minimum of 30 credit hours per academic year
  • Demonstrate content expertise and currency in the following areas:
  • Engineering statics, theoretical and applied
  • Engineering dynamics, theoretical and applied
  • Fluid power systems, hydraulic and pneumatic
  • Relay and PLC ladder logic
  • 3-phase induction motors and controls
  • Servo and stepper motor controls
  • Industrial robotic systems
  • Electrical circuit analysis, theoretical and applied
  • Parametric solid modeling software; Solidworks preferred, Inventor/Creo are also acceptable
  • Engineering drawing systems and standards (including GD&T and traditional standards) and the creation of design documentation 
  • Creation and development of design to specifications
  • Develop and maintain an increasingly diverse and effective pedagogical skillset that reflects our philosophy as established in our mission: Our focus is learning. Student success is our goal
  • Schedule weekly conference hours and be otherwise available regularly for student inquiry
  • Possess both the willingness and the ability to share expertise with students, colleagues, and the broader College community in a manner that is engaging and effective
  • Serve on College committees and participate in departmental, divisional, shared governance, and college-wide initiatives as required
  • Engage in continued professional growth, scholarly engagement, and/or creative development
  • Demonstrate both the willingness and the ability to embrace technology within the College environment
  • Develop and maintain a solid commitment to college service and community engagement
  • Engage in professional behavior and participate actively in teamwork while respecting the diversity of values, opinions, and backgrounds, both inside and outside the classroom environment

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in Physics or Engineering with 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline.
Note: the EGR minimum requirements would also meet the minimum qualifications for the Physics department. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching at a community college
  • Experience using technology to enhance student learning
  • Interpretation and knowledge of engineering drawing systems and standards
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and engineering materials and processes
  • Background in applied mathematics
  • Other areas in the AET/IMT area would also be feasible; these are areas in great demand
