Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Director offers individual career coaching, internship, and job-search advising to students and alumni, develops and presents workshops and presentations, and develops positive relationships with students, employers, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. The Assistant Director assists the department in managing general operations, program assessments, maintaining and developing employment recruiting events, and development of college and career programs. This role also engages in appropriate community organizations to further the opportunities for post-graduation success of our students.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in the development and implementation of strategic plans and initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of career services.
- Oversee daily operations of the Career Services department, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services to students.
- Assist with the supervision and mentoring of Career Services staff, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Coordinate the development and delivery of career-related workshops, seminars, and events, including resume writing, interview skills, job search strategies, and networking.
- Foster relationships with employers, community partners, and alumni to create job and internship opportunities for students.
- Increase engagement with community employers through proactive outreach, collaboration, and partnership development.
- Collaborate with academic departments, faculty, and other campus units to integrate career development into the student experience.
- Provide career counseling and advising to students, helping them develop career plans, explore career options, and prepare for job searches.
- Manage and evaluate career services programs and initiatives, ensuring they meet the needs of a diverse student population and align with institutional goals.
- Assist, implement and maintain tracking systems to monitor student outcomes, including job placement rates, internship participation, and graduate success.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, proposals, and other documents related to career services activities and outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Workforce Development Center Director, Associate Provost/Strategic & Collaborative Partnerships, Provost/VP of Academic Affairs, or President.
Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:- Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Human Resources, Communications or related field.
- Two years of full time or 4 years of part-time experience in a higher education, career services or workforce setting.
- 12 graduate-level credit hours or a Master's Degree, in Psychology, Counseling, Human Resources or Higher Education.
- 4 years experience working in a Higher Education or School Counseling setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in the use of personal computer and various software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Adobe Acrobat and other educational platforms.
- Must have effective organizational, planning, written and oral communication in English and Spanish; maintain positive and effective relationships with supervisors and must possess interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to exhibit analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to follow through on details.
- Ability to multi-task in a dynamic and fast paced environment is preferred
- Valid Texas Drivers License is required to be able to travel between Ft. McIntosh, South Campus and external sites.
