Description

Full-time College Economics/Business instructor with teaching duties in Economics and/or Business courses. Responsibilities include active participation in departmental work on curriculum design, assessment, and pedagogy. This position is for a 9-month period. Teaching assignments may be for day and/or evening hours. Courses may be seated, synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid.

Must be willing to travel and teach at off-campus locations including local area high schools.

 

Examples of Duties

  • Provide classroom instruction to students. 
  • Prepare for each learning experience; prepare, maintain, and update lesson plan; develop and prepare methods to evaluate student performance; assist in ordering supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons as appropriate.
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; proctor tests; grade and record individual scores.
  • Provide individual assistance to students outside of the classroom as appropriate.
  • Participate in development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and/or courses.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain various records and databases according to program needs or accreditation requirements, and submit reports according to policy.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the appropriate academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
  • Assist with and carry out, as required, the implementation of policies and procedures related to required instructional area. Communicate clearly, conscientiously, and in a caring manner with students.
  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate a variety of textbooks, films, and videos; select books and other materials to be used for assigned instructional classes.
  • Maintain required office hours according to established policies.
  • Interact with colleagues and students in a collegial and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Degree Requirements:
Masters degree in Economics or Business Administration or closely related field. If masters is in a closely-related field, the applicant must have at least 18 graduate hours in either Economics or Business. Course work in adolescent learning, adult learning, educational leadership, and educational technology are all highly desirable.

Experience:
Experience teaching college-level coursework is preferred. Experience with using instructional technology is preferred. Experience teaching in both high school and college environments is a plus. Willingness to teach in both high school and college environments is a requirement.
 
Knowledge of:

  • Classroom instructional techniques and procedures.
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
  • Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Principles and techniques involved in curriculum and course development.
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, as appropriate.

 

 
Ability to:

  • Participate in instructional programs suited to the community.
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
  • Participate in curriculum development.
  • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Maintain mental capacity which allows for effective interaction and communication with others.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Must be a good team member and be willing to update skills as needed. 
  • Must be able to work effectively with diverse student populations. Educational philosophy must be compatible with the role of the community college and with best practices in education.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Oral communication skills will be assessed in the interview.
  • Written communication skills will be assessed in the letter of application and all application materials submitted.
