Workforce Career and Credentials Coach

Job Description

Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning.  Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.

The Workforce Career and Credentials Coach will assist students interested in or enrolled in workforce programs with career and educational planning services, program admissions, financial aid, successful and credential completion, identifying work-based learning opportunities, and job placement and retention. The Coach will work collaboratively with the Adult Education Department in programs related to Integrated Education and Training (IET). The Coach will assist students in overcoming barriers to success by connecting them to supportive services at the college and in the region, as appropriate. The coach will work closely with students before, during, and after their credentialing programs to help the college workforce unit achieve goals related to the VCCS and ESCC strategic plans.
This is a restricted funded position.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to build relationships and provide excellent coaching services to students from broad and diverse ethnic/racial/economic backgrounds, who are pursuing short-term workforce opportunities. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service. Must possess both creative and critical thinking skills. Strong recordkeeping skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. The coach should have basic knowledge of the workforce development system in Virginia and support resources and some experience in accessing supportive services for clients. The coach should have excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to collaborate with community college and workforce partners and employers. Knowledge of career assessment and development trends and methodologies. Ability to be an effective listener. Ability to use various computer applications including MS Office and Internet Explorer. Valid driver's license.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in counseling, human resources, social services, education, or a related field. Understanding of career coaching principles and standards. Coaches should have completed or be willing and able to complete the Virginia Career Coach Certification Program within the first 6 months of employment. Experience in and/or understanding of various Workforce Development programs, credentials, and financial aid.
