THE ORGANIZATION

A private nonprofit organization founded in 1973, Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) is a large agency that is part of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) nationwide network. Founded as a result of the federal Older Americans Act, the AAAs are mandated to “facilitate the area-wide development and implementation of a comprehensive, coordinated system for providing long-term care in home and community-based settings, in a manner responsive to the needs and preferences of older individuals and their family caregivers.” PCA carries out this mission through advocacy, stewardship of public funding, planning, development and administration of programs, and service coordination.

The mission of PCA is to improve the quality of life for older Philadelphians and adults with disabilities and assist them in achieving their maximum level of health, independence, and productivity.

THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Executive Administrator of Planning, the Director of Marketing, Communications and Development is responsible for planning and executing all marketing, communications, and development activities of the agency, as well as most special events that are promotional or funding-related in nature. This position provides leadership in efforts to broaden awareness of PCA programs and services to various audiences, including consumers, caregivers, providers, the aging network and the public. The position is also responsible for developing new corporate and community relationships and for efforts to broaden and enhance PCAs revenue streams from corporations, foundations and individual donors.

There are three (3) direct reports: Special Events Manager, Development Manager, Communications Manager (with 4 staff: Public Relations Specialist, Multimedia Communications Specialist, Graphic Designer & Print Production Manager, Editor & Publications Manager).

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing

a. Oversees the development and implementation of strategic marketing plans to promote a positive image of PCA, increase stakeholder awareness of the agency, and help build brand awareness.

b. Manages annual marketing campaigns to increase PCA brand awareness and to promote various programs and services as determined by senior management. Oversees creative development and media buying across all mediums, including TV, radio, print, outdoor, transit and social.

c. Leads the development of a marketing philosophy within PCA and serves as a resource for PCA staff in helping them resolve marketing-related issues at the agency or in the aging network.

d. Oversees the development and execution of the agencys marketing and communications plans. Provides guidance and ensures a unified image of PCA is presented throughout all published materials, advertising, public relations, and special events.

Communications

a. Oversees PCAs relations with the media, including press conferences and releases, media interviews, and public service announcements.

b. Oversees the development, design, distribution and translation of PCA brochures, reports, internal and external newsletters, marketing and other printed materials, including PCAs print and electronic publications.

c. Oversees the graphic and content development of PCAs external website; social media initiatives; and the agencys internal employee intranet.

d. Oversees production of PCAs print and electronic publications.

Development

a. Provides leadership for planning and executing all development activities, including strategies for raising revenues from corporations, foundations and individuals. Raises funds by harnessing the power of marketing and communications and incorporating best practices in marketing, communications and development.

b. Develops and implements a strategic fundraising plan that includes grant writing, annual appeals and major gifts for the Emergency Fund and the Rodney D. Williams Philadelphia Fund for Seniors.

c. With support, develops key performance indicators and regular reporting to senior leadership.

d. Cultivates and builds meaningful relationships with individuals and the business community as part of a major gifts program to help secure new sources of revenue, facilitate corporate sponsorships, increase levels of support from existing donors, and renew commitments from past donors.

e. Ensures that an appropriate database of external contacts and contributors is developed and maintained to properly support PCAs corporate relations and development activities.

f. Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders and provides stewardship of all donors ensuring appropriate communications, timely acknowledgement and recognition.

Events

a. Oversees a wide range of annual events to carry out PCAs marketing and development goals.

b. Oversees the development of all event marketing materials, working closely with communications and marketing and development staff.

c. Solicits corporate event sponsors and exhibitors; executes sponsorship and exhibitor agreements and tracks payments.

d. Ensures fulfillment of all sponsorship benefits.

 


Other

a. Prepares and manages annual budget and monitors spending, assuring prudent planning and appropriate administration of department budget.

b. Clearly and effectively communicates PCAs mission to diverse audiences while enhancing the organizations reputation in the community. Positively represents PCA in the community.

c. Manages the advertising sales function of Milestones newspaper, including the development of sales materials, media kit, and rate card.

d. Manages the distribution of Milestones newspaper which entails a monthly circulation of more than 73,000 copies at more than 900 Philadelphia locations.

e. Manages contracts with independent contractors, as needed.

f. Engages in ongoing evaluation of all communications, marketing, and development activities to monitor effectiveness and appropriateness.

g. Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • A bachelors degree is required; communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field is preferred.
  • Eight years of marketing and/or communications experience at a senior level.
  • Development experience and demonstrated expertise in corporate sponsorships, fundraising and development activities.
  • Experience in organizing special events.
  • Knowledge of the Philadelphia corporate and foundation community.

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time, exempt, and hybrid position in a flexible work environment with the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging at 642 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130.

Starting Salary Range: The starting salary range for the position is $91,115.86 to $105,478 depending on experience. Benefits: medical, prescription drug, vision, and dental coverage; flexible spending plan (health and dependent care); employee assistance program (EAP), life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, pre-tax commuting and parking benefits; 403(b) retirement plan with employer contributions and optional employee pre-tax contributions. Annual paid time off includes 13 holidays, 10 sick days, 2 personal days, and 4 weeks of vacation. (Note: vacation and personal days are front-loaded and are pro-rated if date of hire is not January 1st; sick days are accrued based on hours worked).
