Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, has an immediate need for a full-time Instructional Lab Coordinator for the Science and Engineering and Technology department. The work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is a Bargaining, non-exempt, grade 27 position. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Under general supervision and/or direction, coordinate the daily operations and activities of the assigned instructional laboratory. Provide technical assistance to students and faculty performing research and accessing instructional resources. Verify equipment setup and proper operation. Demonstrate learning, scientific, and technical principles through classroom experiments. The work involves setting up and organizing work areas for classroom instruction and coordinating with and providing instructional assistance services to faculty. Plan activities, order and pick up supplies and materials, maintain the facility, check/maintain equipment, and schedule student assistants and/or staff in order to meet instructional objectives. The incumbent follows specific guidelines developed by the faculty/supervisor in providing instructional support in the laboratory.

Instructional Lab Coordinators may specialize in specific academic disciplines. This job profile is intended to capture generalized essential functions of the collegewide role. Primary contacts include college faculty, staff, students, and representatives of external organizations such as vendors, instructors, and industry-specific professional associations.

Essential Functions

  • Identify instructional activities that will support the laboratory's instructional objectives.

  • Organize the work and set up equipment, instruments, and tools for use by students and faculty.

  • Provide direction in the facilitation of student laboratory experiences.

  • Assemble and check equipment for proper operation and adjust equipment as necessary. Perform general maintenance and repairs and/or coordinate with outside contracted services. Troubleshoot and solve problems. Provide Cisco CLI support. Knowledge of Unix, Windows Server, shell scripting, PowerShell, and Pythion.

  • Train students, staff and faculty on proper use of lab equipment and instruments.

  • Organize and prepare laboratory schedules.

  • Ensure and maintain a safe, clean and orderly laboratory. Adhere to all applicable OSHA guidelines and regulations.

  • Ensure that supplies and equipment are properly stored and secured controlling appropriate access to laboratory areas.

  • Prepare requisitions and place orders to maintain an inventory of equipment, software, materials and supplies.

  • Maintain system and applications software, peripheral equipment, boards and add-ons, productivity utilities and other special purpose software and hardware products.

  • Manage user accounts on the NETLAB appliances.  

  • Create tutorials for Netlab labs. Assist students with access and completion of labs.

  • Configure and manage Cisco switches and routers.

  • Create network cables from basic components. 

  • Create network security policies. 

  • Manage Cisco components including MLI updates, configuration, and repair.

  • Manage support classroom activities in classrooms in support of networking classes. 

  • Manage support cloud service.

  • Work with the Office of Information Technology to install and test software and hardware.

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise students' work; monitor and provide training on safe work practices and procedures. 

  • Manage and advise student Cybersecurity Club.  Run Cybersecurity Club speaker events.

  • Specific responsibilities may vary based on the academic discipline associated with the laboratory.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in an academic field related to the assigned area(s) plus three (3) years of related experience.

  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Licenses and Certifications

OSHA training or knowledge of OSHA laboratory standards may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A+, Security+, CEH certifications.

Hiring Range: $30.47 to $39.60Initial salary placement is based on internal equity and relevant candidate experience.  Please include a complete resume/application including all relevant or related experience.
