Position Summary
The JOBS Engagement Specialist is responsible for focusing on engagement of JOBS Program participants, including teens, for the purposes of guiding and supporting JOBS participants towards self-sufficiency. Responsible for and assists in the placement, support and maintenance of work experience and educational components for the JOBS Program in Hermiston. Responsible for developing and facilitating life skill classes and providing individualized one-on-one services. Office located at Blue Mountain Community College in Hermiston. Position may travel to other locations, (Milton-Freewater or Pendleton) to cover some assignments. Performs consistently with the team-based model and conforms to the colleges guiding principles. Perform all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.
Essential Functions
- Engagement in educational components such as GED, GED Academy, ABE (Adult Basic Education) and other education activities. Includes mentoring clients in their participation in JOBS activities, life skills classes and individual one-one-one services, employment stabilization for TANF leavers and community service.
- Meets and works closely with JOBS Program Manager and JOBS Coordinator/Facilitator in Pendleton. Also works in a team environment with all JOBS staff.
- Meets and works closely with DHS Family Coaches and maintains positive and productive relationships.
- Assists clients in maintaining work experience/educational components with travel to homes and sites.
- Maintains and submits JOBS information and any requested paperwork such as attendance and monthly reports in a timely manner to accurately track enrollment and attendance.
- This position includes daily office duties, such as tracking and monitoring daily, weekly and monthly attendance for Hermiston and may occasionally include office duties in all locations, (Pendleton & Milton-Freewater). Position may assist in some aspects of monthly JOBS performance reporting.
- Maintains sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
- Attends and participates in virtual or in person Self-Sufficiency/BMCC JOBS meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Participates in organizational learning and professional development activities as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Aspects of this Position
- May require working varied hours.
- Travel to clients home/worksites and meetings as needed, valid drivers license required.

- Must have ability to schedule time and prioritize effectively and efficiently to carry out the essential functions of this position.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality while working with co-workers, administration, clients, records and files is essential.
- Ability to use a variety of office equipment and computers, be able to keyboard and/or type 40 words per minute and be able to work with basic computer data and programs.
Required Education and Experience
- A high school education or equivalent.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Successful experiences working with diverse adult learners/clients.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite.

This is a part time position up to 29 hours per week as needed. Part time employees earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked and receive one class tuition waiver per term.
Pay: $20.37 per hour
