Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited community colleges in the U.S. by the Aspen Institute, SCCC serves a student body of 2,500+ students ranging in age from 15 to 85, in a county with the highest foreign-born percentage population in the U.S., and a rural service area of about 50,997 in seven Southwest Kansas counties as well as neighboring counties in southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles.
Responsibilities
The main duties Agriculture Instructor would be responsible for duties including but are not limited to:
- The instructor will engage in a variety of learning support and instruction/institutional practices. This includes but is not limited to developing syllabi, facilitating student learning in classroom and lab settings, recruiting, advising, tutoring, and evaluating students.
- The successful candidate will teach current and future students to meet Agriculture demands.
- The instructor will engage in a variety of learning support and instructional practices and mentoring of students in agriculture. The instructional focus is teaching college courses in general agriculture curriculum, agribusiness, and related agriculture curriculum.
- The candidate will be tasked with student advising, course development, and instructing students (in the classroom, laboratory, and small group settings) on the basic study of Agriculture, to meet the requirements of an Associate of Science and/or transfer program. Some travel is required. Faculty is expected to demonstrate and maintain competence throughout their employment at the college.
The second part of the position would be to assist in Assistant Livestock Judging Coach duties to include but not limited to:
- Assisting with the two livestock judging teams on campus while students practice and prepare for competitions.
- Engage in a variety of learning support for students.
- Mentoring students in Agriculture related majors.
- Assist with responsibilities coaching and traveling with both livestock judging teams.
- Representing SCCC at local, regional, state, and national collegiate livestock judging contests.
- Be active in student recruitment.
- Completing daily tasks around the agriculture complex.
- Fixing fence and maintenance of livestock pens.
- Maintenance of the greenhouse for fruit and vegetable production.
- Planting, maintaining, and harvesting of the crop fields.
- Caring for fish
- Assisting with the bio-fuels production and maintenance of Grain Bins.
- Feeding and caring for the goats and other animals on campus.
- Running and maintaining farm equipment.
Qualifications
Qualifications Masters degree required. Previous teaching instruction in community college or secondary education preferred.
