Job Description

The Financial Aid Advisor provides counseling and advising services for financial aid processes, academic coursework, and how it affects a students financial aid award(s) received. This position is responsible for income adjustments. The Financial Aid Advisor helps monitor and process financial aid awards and is considered a Financial Aid Officer by Department of Education standards and
requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Advises students on financial aid matters; such as loan debt, aid cancellations, grant funding, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP); and keep students informed about best course of action for appealing financial aid decisions and leads satisfactory academic progress appeal committee.
  • Responds to requests for information from students, staff, governmental agencies, and the general public.
  • Reviews and evaluates eligibility of financial aid applications- exercises professional judgement to award maximum aid to students with unusual circumstances.
  • Conducts workshops, training sessions and/or presentations to students, parents and other parties on financial aid information.
  • Performs data entry and retrieval of student financial aid data.
  • Prepares reports for financial aid programs; processing applications and supporting documents for student participations in grant, loan, and student employee programs.
  • Conducts required counseling sessions and maintains contact with various federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Ensures compliance with all Title IV regulations regarding aid eligibility.
  • Serves on committees and professional organizations to provide clear and complete explanation of available financial aid, including Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended.
  • Advises student on loan and similar financial aid awards up to the maximum student loan amount allowed.
  • Performs other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
Bachelors Degree
AND
  • Related experience in financial aid, higher education, and other financial roles that apply to the
duties and responsibilities of this positions description
OR
  • Associates Degree
AND
  • Four (4) years of related experience in higher education, with sixteen months experience directly related to Financial aid roles.
  • This position must complete mandatory training for compliance with federal and college requirement
 
Preferences:
  • Experience with Title IV Federal Regulations related to verification, awarding, and disbursing of federal financial aid, state regulations, and scholarships.
  • Experience with Banner or similar financial aid software
  • Expert knowledge of financial aid processes, guidelines, and procedures
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of education, experience, or training can be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
