Job Summary
Provides support to the Director and assists in the operation of living-learning, co-educational residence halls.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the development, implementation, and assessment of themed housing models assists in resident room assignment, community development programming model, and retention programs.
- Provide leadership and training for the RHA officers, schedule and attend all meetings and programs. Establish, lead, and manage a student dining and student safety committees; collaborate with dining services and campus police, and act as a liaison for other departments on campus.
- Creates and facilitates residence hall orientation regarding residence hall policies, procedures and code of conduct; provides initial contact and refers students to the proper individual or organization for aid in situations of personal crisis.
- Trains and supervises the Resident Assistant staff in planning, organizing, advertising, implementing and evaluating the success of programming functions (e.g., student activity meetings, campus tours, student trips/outings and sporting/recreational activities) across the campus; oversees the Resident Assistant Program, including the planning and implementation for interactive and comprehensive training sessions in August and January.
- Maintains records, compiles data, and prepares reports for various College departments and officials according to established procedures; conducts assessments for the Residence Life Program as a whole.
- The essential functions the candidate will be required to provide on-call duty cover 24/7 year-round according to the schedule provided by the supervisor, codeveloped between the supervisor and the candidate, for responding to crisis situations, emergencies and other needs as they arise.
- The successful candidate will be required to reside on-campus, living in a College provided apartment as the primary residence. Must be willing to provide night, weekend, and holiday work as required.
- Participates in committee assignments and in the recruitment and retention of students.
- Performs other duties commensurate with functions and level of position or as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelors degree.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of related experience
A combination of years of experience and education may be considered for this position
SPECIAL POSITION CONDITIONS: Required to reside on-campus in the College provided apartment as the primary residence. Night and weekend work required.
Background Verification: As a condition of employment, all candidates accepting an offer of employment for a full-time, part- time, temporary, student worker, or volunteer position, will be required to undergo a Background Verification. Employment with Central Arizona College is contingent upon the successful completion of the background verification. The level the background verification for this position is: Standard level.

- Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of counseling particularly as they apply to young adults.
- Knowledge of student development theories, higher education residence life best practices, and residence life programming models.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws relating to the operation of or having an impact on the residence halls.
- Knowledge of data collection and report preparation and presentation.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and mentoring.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of outdoor recreation and intramural activities.
- Skill in using techniques and methodologies in administering student discipline and in handling crisis situations.
- Skill in communicating.
- Skill in interacting with College officials, campus police officers and students.
- Skill in mentoring and in providing leadership to students and student groups.
- Skill in organizing a variety of activities and events for students, faculty, staff and community members.
- Skill in recognizing, analyzing, and developing solutions to a variety of problem situations as they relate to residence hall students.
- Ability to interact with a diverse population.
- Ability to make rational decisions in an emergency situation and to remain calm in a challenging environment

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise and interruptions or in congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements. When responding to an on-call situation children cannot be left unattended and must be supervised by a competent adult in accordance with the Children on Campus policy.
