Job Description

CHIEF OF STAFF FOR STUDENT LIFE, Dean for Student Life (DSL), to provide a high-level of support/advice to the vice chancellor (VC) and work closely and collaboratively with the senior leadership team to develop and reinforce organizational rhythms that drive the division to success in programming and services.  Will serve as an advisor of executive-level decision-making, facilitator of divisional priorities, promoter of a positive culture for students and staff, and conduit for information flow; provide assistance to the VC and outreach to key stakeholders on the VCs behalf, including institutional colleagues, faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, community members, and others; and undertake special projects.  Duties include overseeing office operations, executive-level correspondence and reports, stewardship, division-wide communication, project management, policy development, and committee leadership; overseeing and coordinating preparation, agendas, and logistics for meetings, committees, and events; and advancing the VCs strategic priorities.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelors degree; at least six years experience in higher education, communications, project management, or related area; excellent organizational, communication, collaboration, writing, editing, and project management skills; track record of collaboration in achieving objectives; political acumen and ability to gauge how and when to engage the participation of different constituencies; initiative; discretion and good judgment with complex confidential/sensitive information; and appreciation for MITs culture and values.  Must be able to influence others; make complex information comprehensible and compelling for a wide range of readers and to write in many styles depending on audience, content, and platform; strategize, raise issues, facilitate decisions, and lead in a complex and fast-paced educational environment; and build strong relationships with members of diverse constituencies.  PREFERRED:  masters degree.  Job #24198-12

Salary range:  $185,000 – 210,000, depending on relevent experience and education
