Job Description

Position Summary

Located 45 minutes from the Nations Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has been twice named in the top 150 community colleges by the Aspen Institute with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. The individual in this position is responsible for managing information technology projects from inception to completion and providing primary database administration of college software applications. Provides project support of existing enterprise systems as well as new technology products and services. Project support includes administering current software applications at the database, operational, and enterprise levels. Additionally, works to implement new and innovative products and services throughout the college to support other departments goals and objectives. Responsibility concentrates on technical support of software systems that include Document Imaging, Recruiter CRM, and other integrated applications with Ellucians Colleague ERP system.  Coordinates with the software support staff to support programming efficiencies in development of application integration and operation functionality.  Coordinates with ITS system managers to perform application and software updates and revisions. Conducts analysis to determine the impact of new applications or requirements on the College database(s). Supports the fiscal management of application system projects.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical, research, and/or reporting to support business related programs and strategies.  

  • Business Data support with the help of tools including Business Objects and Web based applications. 

  • Accountability in building and maintaining new Business Intelligence & Alignment dashboards to provide leaders consistent, accurate insight to make strategic business decisions. 

  • Examines and evaluates purpose and content of business requests/reports to develop new, or improve existing format, use, and control. 

  • Reviews requests/reports to determine basic characteristics, such as origin, format, frequency, distribution and purpose or function of report. 

  • Actively participate in different process improvement and re-engineering project initiatives to maintain high quality standards in all the deliverables. 

  • Provide support in the use of Colleague Reporting and Operating Analytics (CROA), Microsoft Power BI, and other business analytics tools. Assist in the creation of datasets, reports, dashboards, and visualizations.  

  • Responsible for investigating new and innovative technologies, products, and services.   

  • Coordinates and assists operational users with identifying and resolving college enterprise system data, software, operation, and business process related problems. 

  • Duties and responsibilities involve documentation and training for end users. Documentation includes providing information supporting IMT software solutions and reporting tools, project management, monthly reporting, process instructions, and the College Technology Plan.  

  • Maintains and provides service as the application system lead for after-hours emergency support for all campuses through the Information Management Technology organization 

  • Maintains a high level of technical expertise and stays abreast of current and developing trends in business analytics, database administration and management, and information and instructional technology through professional reading, attending industry conferences, and professional development (training, education, and participation in professional associations). 

  • Improves systems by studying current practices and designing modifications or applications.

Minimum Education and Training


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING  

  • Associate degree required and 5 years experience in Database Administration or Software Programming. 


PREFERRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING  

  • Bachelors degree in a computer technology field preferred, and 3 years experience in Database Administration or Software Programming 

  • Document Management and MS SQL administration certifications are desirable. 

  • Experience with CROA., Power BI, Unidata, Oracle, Perceptive Content, MS Access, and SQL Server preferred.  

  • Experience participating on technical project teams.  

  • Experience with network protocols, computer software applications, security, integrity, and SQL. 

  • Working knowledge of relational database reporting tools preferred.  


Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

 

  • Business Data support with the help of tools including Business Objects and Web based applications. 

  • Experience in project management principles and tools focused on information system technologies.   

  • Ability to plan and execute multiple, complex technical projects concurrently.   

  • Ability to adapt quickly to rapidly changing technology. 

  • Ability to translate technical terms for non-technical persons. 

  • Working knowledge of document imaging and management, enterprise software systems, database administration, and Internet/Intranet technologies. 

  • Work experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office is desired.  

  • Excellent communications (written and oral), customer service and problem-solving skills.   

  • Experience leading technical teams.   

  • Experience providing end-user training and teaching experience. 

  • Ability to develop and implement enterprise application systems, polices, procedures, and plans.

 

Physical Requirements: 
The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
