PT Maintenance/grounds/custodial helper

Position Summary: 

Maintenance/Custodian/Grounds Helper is responsible for custodial cleanliness, building maintenance, security and grounds keeping for assigned areas as well as perform electrical work if employee has the required license. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions

  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, shampoo, and/or spot clean classroom, office, hallway, restroom and related indoor and outdoor area floors and walking surfaces.  Use appropriate sanitizing and cleaning products when mopping, spot cleaning or shampooing. 
  • Clean whiteboards and trays.
  • Empty, clean, and line wastebaskets.  Empty pencil sharpeners.
  • Dust tables, desks, window sills, chairs and other flat surfaces.  Wax and polish furniture as needed.
  • Wash tabletops, desks, mirrors, windows, drinking fountains and sinks, including chrome and stainless steel plumbing, with appropriate cleaning and sanitizing products. 
  • Polish chrome and stainless areas.
  • Scrub toilet bowls and urinals inside and out, including chrome and stainless steel plumbing, with appropriate cleaning chemicals.  Wash toilet seat covers.  Clean soap and paper towel dispensers.
  • Check and replenish paper towels, toilet tissues, hand soap, sanitary napkins. 
  • Collect all trash from assigned area on a daily basis and dispose of in large refuse s provided.
  • Monitor supply of necessary cleaning and sanitizing products.  Notify supervisor of need to replenish supplies prior to running out.
  • Perform light maintenance on equipment, furniture, buildings including, but not limited to, light plumbing repairs, furniture repair, and replacement of lights.
  • Perform specialized tasks during adverse weather conditions and college closures.
  • Perform lawn maintenance activities.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs of the lawn irrigation systems.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of landscaped areas.
  • Perform weed eating activities.
  • With required (minimum LME) license must change ballasts, receptacles, switches, light fixtures, troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits and work on existing electrical systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Aspects of this Position

  • Travel to other locations or to obtain supplies as needed, valid drivers license preferred.

  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend, twist, climb, crouch, crawl, kneel, push, pull, shovel, walk, prune, or plant, for varying lengths of time.
  • Must be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must have the ability to use effective interpersonal and customer service skills.

Sick Leave:  Part-time employees earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked.

Tuition Waiver: Part time employees are eligible for one class tuition waiver per term.  The waiver is for up to four (4) credits, employee is responsible for all associated fees and additional credits.

Pay:  $14.50 per hour
