Job Summary

Under general supervision, prepare and teach college level Welding courses and labs such as Introduction to Welding, Safety, Blueprint Reading, Oxy-Acetylene Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) as well as other courses as assigned. This position may teach day, evening and weekend courses.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Follow the course curriculum outline, prepare and deliver lectures, labs and other course activities.
2. Prepare and administer student assessments and evaluations.
3. Keep accurate classroom records.
4. Develops and maintains written syllabi/course outlines and course materials.
5. Schedule and maintain office hours: announce/post office hours to students in all classes.
6. Follow SLCC policies and procedures.
7. Provide ADA accommodation as required.
8. Attend and participate in college, program meetings.
9. Remain current with new trends and developments in field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars and/or workshops.
10. Maintain required certifications.
11. Apply OSHA standards relating to lab and site safety.
12. Maintain inventory control of equipment, tools, and supplies required for classes and lab.
13. Completes all required training.
14. Advise students on program and/or course requirements.
15. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to the Welding Technology profession.
16. Demonstrate welding techniques and procedures consistent with industry and department practices.
17. Teach and enforce safe practices using welding processes according to departmental policy.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Welding Technology or related field from an accredited College of University.
2. Two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in Welding, or related field.
3. AWS CWI/CWE Certifications related to specific classes being taught.
4. Demonstrated competency with multiple instructional delivery methods (web-enhanced and face-to-face).
5. Recent welding teaching and curriculum experience at the community college, or equivalent environments, including non-traditional settings that require professionalism, flexibility, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Interest in pursuing creative and innovative services to improve student achievement and completion.
7. Ten (10), or more, years related occupational experience.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Minimum six (6) years of professional field experience in the Welding Industry and an Associate degree in Welding Technology or related studies.
Or
Minimum of four (4) years of professional field experience in the Welding Industry and a Bachelors of Science (BS) degree.
2. Ability to perform department welder qualification test using the following processes: OAW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, PAC, OAC.
3. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools used by welders.
4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Ability to stand before a class of students and deliver required subject matter.
2. Demonstrated proficiency in welding.
3. Good reading and writing skills.
4. Excellent communication skills.

1. As directed by SLCC policy, adjunct positions are semester by semester contracts with no guarantee of continued employment.
