Job Description

Ozarka College in Melbourne is seeking qualified applicants for an Accountant I.  The Accountant I acting under the direction of the Business Manager, is responsible for the maintenance and management of financial accounting data, processing of employee payrolls, track employee leave balances, receipting for all areas of the college, assists with financial aid disbursements, assists students in the Finance Office, and other duties as assigned. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyze expenditures to determine impact on general ledger
• Participate in the development of new accounting techniques in the design and implementation of accounting subsystems, compilation of manuals for accounting and computer applications, and preparation of monthly reports
• Prepare financial transactions, reports of operations, expenditure reports, revenue reports and other information concerning financial reporting requirements
• Process semi-monthly payroll
• Process all monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports pertaining to payroll
• Balance full time employee accrued leave
• Assist students with financial aid disbursement and account payments
• Receipt cash, check, credit card, and direct deposits
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
• Bachelors degree in accounting, plus five years of experience in accounting is preferred.
• Ability to analyze financial information and prepare reports.
• Ability to provide guidance and technical assistance to management, staff, and the general public regarding accounting operations.
• Ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of accounting systems and controls, identify problems, and devise corrective actions.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of a computer as it relates to specific position requirements.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Demonstrated effective organization skills.
