DESCRIPTION

Napa Valley College is currently hiring for a part-time, hourly credit Head Softball Coach/Instructor to start immediately or by the start of the Spring 2025 semester.

The starting salary range is $74.84 - $80.94/classroom hour, with future steps up to $94.69/classroom hour, plus an annual coaching stipend (2024-2025 - $12,410). Part-time coaches receive the coaching stipend during the semester that corresponds with the season of the sport.  Part-time coaches may also receive summer and/or fall session teaching assignments based on course availability and qualifications.  Placement is based on verified previous college teaching, counseling, and/or librarian work experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Dean of Kinesiology/Athletics, and in coordination with assistant coaches, athletic trainers and the equipment room staff, the softball head coach plans, organizes, and administers all tasks associated with the intercollegiate program, including recruitment and selection of student-athletes; student-athlete academic and personal advising; coordination of student-athlete transfer to four-year institutions; practice and game scheduling; pre-season and in-season student-athlete conditioning; enforcement of all State Commission (CCCAA), conference, and college recruitment, eligibility and participation rules; making travel arrangements; budget management; procurement of equipment and supplies; public and media relations; fundraising; field maintenance and setup; scheduling officials; and conference responsibilities. This position includes credit instruction in Kinesiology, both theory (lecture) and activity classes. These assignments may include a combination of day, evening and weekend classes. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Master's in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, athletic training, or adaptive physical education,

OR 

bachelor's in any of the above

AND 

master's in any life science, dance, physiology, health

education, recreation administration, or physical therapy

OR the equivalent.

Experience
Two years experience coaching softball at the intercollegiate or high school varsity level, which could include assistant coaching experience; and/or high-level competitive playing experience at the college level is required.

Other Qualifications
Valid California driver's license;

Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification

Desired Professional Qualifications

Knowledge of: teaching and learning theories, principles and strategies as applied to a wide range of physical education courses; student learning outcomes specific to physical education courses; NCAA playing rules; NCAA transfer guidelines; and comprehensive community college philosophy; 

Demonstrated ability to: instruct all levels of physical education courses; motivate and teach in ways appropriate to the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and learning styles of the community college student; facilitate application of theory to practice; coach/instruct women's basketball players in the fundamentals of the game and development of advanced athletic skills; analyze skill development and  respond  with  individualized  instruction; develop and implement conditioning programs to prepare for intercollegiate competition; develop a recruiting plan and recruit effectively; provide leadership, energy, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence in athletics; supervise assistant coaches; communicate effectively and work cooperatively with instructors, coaches, administrators and support staff in a team-oriented environment; interpret and apply rules and regulations; develop promotional events and raise funds.
