CASA - Summer Recreation Teacher
Job Description
CASA (Childrens After School Achievement) is a community program of Hope College that has served the Holland area for 34 years. Our purpose is to promote educational achievement among underrepresented elementary school children by providing the tools needed for academic success. Students benefit from one-on-one tutoring during the school year and classroom instruction during the summer.
Summer CASA meets four mornings a week for six weeks. Five classrooms of approximately 15 students are taught by certified teachers, each assisted by a Teaching Assistant. The focus is educational success in all subjects, with a strong emphasis in reading and math. Teachers will design the curriculum, linking learning with personal and cultural enrichment opportunities for students.
This position is for a summer recreation teacher that will focus on health, wellness, and planning outdoor activities for the CASA students.
SUMMER TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

- Develop recreation curriculum, lesson plans and objectives to expand students strengths and address academic needs of underrepresented students
- Supervise classroom teaching assistant or CASA volunteers if assigned to your classroom
- Work the duration of the summer program
REQUIRED DATES AND HOURS:
-Monday – Thursday Staff Orientation: Monday, June 9th-12th, 2025 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
- Mondays through Thursdays, June 16 through Thursday, July 31, 2025(Unpaid Holiday: June 30- July 3)
- Teachers hours are 8:00am to approximately 1:00 pm daily
(extended to 45 minutes for staff meetings on Tuesdays)
- Additional required hours are:
Staff Meetings –Tuesdays 12:45-1:15 PM (Weekly Check In and Lesson Planning Time)
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: College degree and experience teaching recreation to elementary or middle school students.
Preferred Qualifications: Valid teaching certification (or within 2 months of final certification), demonstrated successful classroom experience teaching ethnically and economically diverse populations of elementary students, ability to drive a Hope College vehicle (includes holding a valid U. S. drivers license for two or more years).

Physical Demands
This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves lifting over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities with students.
