THE OPPORTUNITY:

Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Associate Director is responsible for advancing college-wide goals to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for students and employees by guiding and supporting HCCCs efforts that promote a proud, culturally competent, and diversity-aware community. The Associate Director serves as the College's first point of contact and subject matter expert related to Veterans Affairs and International Student Services; coordinates and aligns DEI-related programs with College administrative units and community stakeholders; supports opportunities for students and employees to effectively develop cultural competency, build community, and cohesion around differences; connects the College to community partners to advance institutional goals in improving educational participation and completion. The Associate Director collaborates with multiple campus constituents to expand and refine support and engagement for students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Manages and supervises College efforts supporting Veteran and international students, including strategic planning and implementation; design and supervision of service delivery; writing and overseeing publications and web-based information.
- Assists the Vice President in developing, planning, writing, and implementing departmental procedures, goals, and objectives; implements policies and regulations as required; provides advice and consultation on various aspects of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Veterans Affairs, and International Student Services.
- Assists the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the continuous improvement of institutional DEI efforts, including projects that emerge from PACDEI, Office of Accessibility Services, and internal and external partnerships.
- Works collaboratively with various campus constituents while demonstrating a commitment to assist in building and sustaining a respectful, welcoming, inclusive, and supportive campus environment for the members of the college community, including members from underrepresented groups.
- Collaborates, designs, implements and assesses educational programs around DEI, Veterans Affairs, and International Student Services with offices, other administrative units, and stakeholders from the external community.
- Supports the Vice President by serving in College-wide Committees, Councils, and Task Forces as required by the Office and the College.
- Develops evaluation tools, collects data, and establishes metrics to measure progress and promote continuous assessment and improvement of the college's DEI efforts.
- Supports the Vice President by serving as a Title IX trainer and investigator.
- Builds collaborative partnerships internally and externally to connect with prospective ethnically diverse faculty and staff.
- Researches and promotes grant opportunities that support civic engagement, program improvement for underserved populations, and the professional development of college employees.
- Develops cultural programming events on campus that intentionally connect students, faculty and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds in an effort to celebrate diversity, encourage dialogue and increase understanding.
- Works collaboratively with various campus constituents to develop and coordinate themed monthly celebrations and activities, including the development of monthly calendars for each.
- Works with and supports Enrollment Services on student outreach efforts, ensuring prospective students are informed of all Veteran and international student services offered at the College. These include participation in enrollment programs such as Open Houses, Orientations, and other college and community events as required.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of Veteran and international student populations; compiles data and generates reports on student enrollment, retention, and graduation rates; and assesses program effectiveness and student outcomes to inform strategic planning and decision-making.
- Leads and supports the College's efforts in the exploration, development, and implementation of travel abroad programs.
- Executes other duties as may be assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree required; Masters Degree in Student Development, counseling, or a related field preferred.
- Five years of related work experience.
- Ability to communicate clearly and interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff from various programs and disciplines with compassion, patience, respect for others, and sensitivity to multicultural issues.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability; excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to work independently and take the initiative.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and ability to learn student information systems and other administrative systems
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations regarding financial aid and student records, knowledge of federal and state regulations and policies governing Veterans Affairs and International Student Services.

Hudson County Community College has three campuses. The largest campus is located at the heart of Jersey Citys Journal Square, which is approximately 20 minutes from New York City. The College has a North Hudson Campus, located in Union City, New Jersey and an additional location at the Hudson County Schools of Technology in Secaucus, New Jersey. The College offers 70 degree and certificate programs and more than 300-day, evening, and weekend courses throughout its three-campus network.

The Nursing Program includes a theoretical base of general education and science courses together with a range of nursing theory and practical courses designed to prepare graduates to be eligible for the New Jersey State Licensure Examination for Registered Professional Nurses (NCLEX–RN).
