The Director of Information Security at Pasadena City College (PCC) leads the implementation, organization, and support of the district's IT security systems. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this role involves developing and executing security risk analyses, mitigation strategies, and remediation plans while participating in strategic technology planning. The Director oversees daily network and data security operations, including creating policies, monitoring threats, and responding to incidents. Importantly, this position supervises a Security Administrator and a Security Analyst, providing leadership and guidance to the team. They manage information security, handle vendor relations, and establish and uphold IT and security policies that comply with regulations and best practices.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Develop and implement security risk analysis, mitigation, and remediation plans.
- Participate in strategic technology planning to ensure application and network capabilities support current and emerging technologies for instructional and administrative needs.
- Manage and oversee daily network and data security operations, including policy creation, threat monitoring, and incident response.
- Oversee and manage the information security of Pasadena City College.
- Serve as a liaison to software and hardware providers, managing vendor relations and technology implementations.
- Establish and maintain IT and security policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of security IT policies, procedures, and infrastructure to support instructional and administrative processes.
- Direct IT workforce planning, including performance management, training, and evaluation of staff.
- Provide guidance and deliver presentations on information security issues, including regulatory changes and best practices.
- Lead incident response and recovery efforts for security breaches.
- Plan, organize, and direct security-related activities in computer labs, data centers, cloud/SaaS environments, networks and servers.
- Provide leadership in developing and implementing the District Technology Plan.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality technology support through needs assessment, system design, and process improvement.
- Lead the development and enforcement of technology security policies and incident notification procedures.
- Lead the development of internal and external auditing procedures and schedules including penetration tests, vulnerability assessments, and network/application/cloud security audits.
- Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of security systems and network design.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelors degree in Cybersecurity, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or a closely related field.
- Five years of experience working in information and system security including network and systems administration and the development, implementation and maintenance of information technology security systems.

- In-depth understanding of security risk analysis, mitigation strategies, incident response, and recovery processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of network design, data security strategies, and tools for monitoring, detecting, and preventing security threats.
- Proven leadership abilities in guiding IT teams, setting goals, and ensuring high-performance, service-oriented work environments.
- Awareness of current and emerging IT trends, including cloud services, virtual technologies, and ERP systems, and their impact on organizational security and efficiency.
SKILLS:
- Expertise in establishing and maintaining IT policies and procedures that comply with regulatory standards and best practices.
- Strong analytical skills to assess IT infrastructure, identify vulnerabilities, and implement improvements for enhanced security and efficiency.
- Proficiency in developing long-term technology plans that align with organizational goals and support instructional and administrative needs.
- Expertise in creating and enforcing security policies, standards, and procedures to protect sensitive data and IT infrastructure.
ABILITIES:
- Ability to effectively manage relationships with software and hardware vendors, including evaluating products and managing technology deployments.
- Ability to assess training needs, develop educational programs, and enhance the technical skills of IT staff to optimize service delivery.
