Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
The Humanities Instructor reports directly to the Dean, Social Sciences and Humanities Division to instruct community college humanities courses to a diverse student population at a college committed to student equity. Course topic areas are typical of lower division undergraduate work in humanities, which include: Creativity, Pop Culture, the study of the Arts, Comparative Religion, Aesthetics, Storytelling, or any of the courses listed here: https://www.deanza.edu/humanities/courses.html
Secondary duties could include activities such as student recruitment and advising; act as liaison between the college and professional and/or educational organizations and community advisory groups; develop, implement, and evaluate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) & curriculum in the subject matter of expertise.
Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also can participate in campus extra-curricular activities college-wide or within the division. We seek faculty members who are themselves life-long learners and independent thinkers we wish our students to become. We are looking for educators who are creative and responsible in their use of time and resources, who possess a clear vision for creating an equitable learning environment, and who can translate that vision into practice.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- College-level instructional experience with interdisciplinary background (teaching in philosophy, history, anthropology, arts, English, etc…)
- Experience and willingness to teach using different modalities (in-person, asynchronously online, hybrid).
- Experience working effectively, collaboratively and across disciplines with students, faculty, and staff from diverse linguistic, academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds; with diverse physical and learning abilities; and with diverse sexual orientations.
- Ability to teach and communicate effectively with students.
- Ability to work closely and cooperatively with faculty and support staff.
- Strong commitment to working collaboratively as a member of a team to advance educational equity (e.g. adoption of open educational resources, retention strategies, tutoring/mentoring opportunities) and the missions of the Division and of the College to promote a civic capacity for global, cultural, social, and environmental justice.
- Ability to develop curriculum and work with academically and culturally diverse students.
