GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time position. Participates in teaching of nursing theory and clinical practice in a one (1) year certificate program. Plans, implements, and evaluates the integration of simulation scenarios into the curriculum to promote student learning, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making. Evaluates, collects, analyzes, and reports data on the effectiveness of simulation on student learning. Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for improvement and innovation, and plans change initiatives for the integration of simulation in clinical education. Responsible for classroom instruction and content development related to nursing simulation. Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: student advising, maintaining office hours, participating in college committees, participating in the mentor-mentee program, promoting and supporting extra-curricular activities, participating in professional development, and working across departments to develop student communication, computation, and problem-solving skills. Faculty shall provide reasonable and uniform standards based upon sound educational principles that allow the opportunity for flexibility, creativity, and innovation. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include non-traditional venues, such as evening, weekend, dual credit, and/or online courses, and must be able to travel to clinical facilities and be flexible to teach as needed. This position reports to the Program Director for Vocational Nursing and exercises no supervision.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of:1. subject matter; 2. scholarship and evidence-based practices; 3. trends in teaching/learning theory as it applies to Vocational Nursing; 4. Simulation in health care education. Ability to: 4. support the philosophy of the vocational nursing department; 5. maintain office hours; 6. advise students; 7. Work effectively in a team committed to student success 8. use technology in support of instruction; 9. evaluate student performance; 10. promote and support related extra-curricular activities; 11. work across departments to develop student communication, computation, and problem-solving skills; 12. establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and those contacted in the course of work; 13. communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical effort-restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 30 lbs.), some walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Work environment-Minimal hazard/exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Show evidence of teaching abilities and current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in the subject areas of teaching responsibility
Experience: Three years of current experience in various nursing fields or advanced preparation in nursing, nursing education, and/or nursing administration
Special Requirement: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Masters Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
Experience: Professional experience in post-secondary teaching in a Vocational Nursing program
