Description of Position

Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director of Housing and Residence Life administers the operation and delivery of all aspects and function of on-campus housing and a comprehensive residential program, including but not limited to:

Administrative

  • Plans and administers department budget and oversight of multiple accounts
  • Development and Implementation of Strategic Retention Plan
  • Collect, analyze, and review data for making data-guided decisions regarding administrative, operational and community development and crisis response initiatives
  • Coordinates comprehensive assessment, and regularly evaluation of process and protocol
  • Writes and reviews Annual Housing Handbook
  • Writes and reviews of the Annual Housing Contract
  • Writes the Annual Department Report
  • Researches and remains current on national housing trends and best practices
  • Makes policy and programming recommendations AVP based on national housing trends and best practices
  • Serves as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team
  • Serves as a member of the CARE Team
  • Serves on college committees and performs related duties as assigned
 
Housing Operations
  • Oversees Building Facilities management
  • Oversees Outreach and Residential Programming
  • Develop, implements and enforces all department policies and procedures for both staff and residential community
  • Plans and oversees Resident Move-In and Resident Move-Out Events
  • Oversees all resident hall specific operational and occupancy management of the annual summer conference season
 
Technical Development
  • Development and management of department website
  • Course Development and management of Online Resident Orientation in Canvas Application
  • Development and implementation of department marketing and communication plans
  • Oversees and is responsible for management and training within the housing CRM system - StarRez
 
Recruitment & Supervision
  • Direct supervision of all department professional staff
  • Indirect supervision of all student staff, including Resident Assistants and Desk Assistants
  • Develop, mentor and coach staffing on all levels
  • Evaluate staff performance
 
Training & Professional Development
  • Recruit, train, supervise and complete performance evaluations for all Residence Life Staff
  • Develop, implement and evaluate staff on-boarding and ongoing training for professional staff and student staff
  • ACHUO-I and AIMHO Institutional Representative as the Yavapai College Senior Housing Officer
 
On-Call Crisis Response
  • Provide high level leadership, direction and consultation during crisis response
  • Develop and implement student staff crisis response protocol and pro-on call crisis response protocol
  • Serves as the administrator on call, supporting the Residence Hall Coordinator and the On-Call Monitor in their on-call responsibility at all times, specifically during nights and weekends
  • In addition to administrative on-call, participates in the general pro-on call rotation with the Residence Hall Coordinator and On-Call Monitor, specifically during nights and weekends, responding to, but not limited to:
    • Suicide risk
    • Student death
    • Sexual Assault/Harassment
    • Mental Heath Incidents
    • Resident Alcohol Intoxication
    • Medical Emergencies
    • Facilities Emergencies
    • General Student Staff support as needed
  • Provide ongoing crisis response training to all professional and student staff
  • Works closely with Campus Safety and Conduct/Community Standard to ensure students at risk are assessed and referred to crisis stabilization and mental health resources.
Emergency Response and Safety
  • Development and implementation of Housing Crisis Response Plan
  • In collaboration with Campus Safety and Risk Assessment Leadership, develops emergency response system for building evacuation plans, active shooter incidents and Student Death response
  • Regularly monitors buildings for safety concerns and collaborates with Facilities Management in the resolution of concerns.
 
Individual and Community Support & Development
  • Provides leadership to the Residence Life staff in developing a caring, inclusive, and healthy residential community
  • Collaborates with campus stakeholder to provide resources for social justice and multiculturalism
  • Provides guidance and coaching to residents, both individually and in groups concerning academic, social and personal issues.

 

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

 

Bachelor's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field

Four or more years of residence life management experience

Supervisory experience

Knowledge in student conduct and community standards

Demonstrated leadership experience in areas of strategic planning and program development

Proficiency in planning and assessment of residential programming

Knowledge of College policies and procedure

Proven ability to counsel, advise and provide programming for community college students

Experience in policy administration

Proven ability to effectively collaborate with other campus offices and constituents

 

Preferred Skills & Abilities

 

Knowledge of student development theory and best practices

Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field-Experience within a community college residential setting

Experience in a leadership position in a college residence hall setting

Knowledge of practical application of assessment

Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment
